024.002 The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment.

024.003 Let no man guilty of adultery or fornication marry and but a woman similarly guilty, or an Unbeliever: nor let any but such a man or an Unbeliever marry such a woman: to the Believers such a thing is forbidden.

Al-Qur'an, 024.002-004 (An-Noor [The Light])

The most accepted collection of Hadith Sahih al Bukhari has 4 entries under 3829, 8804, 8805 and 8824 which refer to stoning by death. 8804 and 8824 overlap each other. And in both the narrator acknowledges his ignorance of whether the stoning to death was carried out before or after the revelation of Quranic Verse 24-2.

the hadiths are too long for cut and paste: so here is link

The Hadith is very clear but is silent on the question whether stoning to death was ordered by the Prophet before or after the revelation of the Verse 24-2.

edit: I think I understand you point, and I kind of agree with you. As by Muslims own admission, there exists corruptions, falsehoods, incorrect information in the hadiths, therefore how can Muslims trust them at all?

Following are words of God. If any Hadith suggests contrary to the words of God, it is false Hadith and Muslims must reject accepting such Ahadiths.

Quran 24 Surah An-Noor Ayah 2 & 3.

2 The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment.
3 Let no man guilty of adultery or fornication marry and but a woman similarly guilty, or an Unbeliever: nor let any but such a man or an Unbeliever marry such a woman: to the Believers such a thing is forbidden.

Allah knows best.

RE:
Exactly what does the Quran say on fornication/adultery and how does the Hadith contradict or try to annul it?

The first thing you must know is if you want to save your marriage and if you find yourself alone in this desire, waiting for the other spouse to make the first move is the beginning of the end. Learn here https://tinyurl.im/aHL2v If you are looking for someone to blame or someone else to put the emotional and physical work into saving the marriage, again, it's going to fail.
