I was 21 in my senior year of College, looking at the draft and a war was raging! Naval OCS sure looked good!! Made some good friends.

I was 17 when I first looked into joining the military...I was starting out with an Army recruiter but got so screwed around by my recruiters that I finally gave up on that idea and instead went to community college for two years...I just graduated from there and then decided to join the Navy to help pay for items and so I could afford things that I really wanted.....many of my family members have served this country and I wish to do the same....I am also going back to school thanks to the armed forces...I leave again in 3 weeks and joined when I was 19.

I decided when I was 16. High school was doing nothing for me. I was flunking almost all my classes, not because I didn't know anything. I aced all the tests I was given so I knew what they were teaching me but they would flunk me because I would not do the homework which I thought was useless. At 16 I went to the Navy recruiter and took some tests, I missed one question. My parents agreed with me so two days after I turned 17 birthday I was at boot camp in San Diego. I scored well enough in the tests given I had my pick of any rate. The schooling and experience in the Navy landed me a job at IBM when I got out with only a GED I got in the Navy. Retired after 30 years as a senior programmer.

I was 12 when I joined the Young Marines program in my city. I spent 4 years in the program and decided at about 14 that I wanted to join the Marine Corps. I entered the Delayed Entry Program when I was 17 and shipped out to Boot Camp 18 days after my 18th birthday. My only regret is that I didn't stay in after my first tour.

I cant remember ever not wanting to be a Marine. From the mid 40's and watching the Saturday news reels in theaters to talking to some "China Marines" from KY. I joined The Corps in 1956 at age 16. I went off to Parris Island in October of 1957. Married My High School Sweetheart in 1958 when home on leave after Boot Camp, ITR and Helo-Marine training was over with. I Finally came home in 1960 became a street cop and all my great adventures started from there. I was finally discharged in 1963 to inactive reserve at my request.
God is Good.

16 when I started filling out the paperwork. Two weeks after my 17th birthday, I filled out the final paperwork along with parents' signatures (because I was not yet 18), and went to basic training 4 months after that on the delayed entry program. Finished basic in Aug, went back home and finished high school and went to AIT when I was 18. Two months after AIT, went from reserves to full time active duty. Served four years.
I now sit here in frustration as an injury essentially forced me out of the service...Nov 19, 2007 would have been 20 years for me. I am now 38, I tried to get back in after 9/11 but they wouldn't have me due to my disability...or so they said.

I signed my contract for The Army on March 12, 2007, five days after my 17th b-day, then left for BCT on June 14, 2007. It was a split ops program so now i gota wait till June 12, 2008 till i go to my AIT. o yea and i signed my active contract. GREAT DECISION

In 1965, I was 18 and turned 19 while on boot leave. I joined to get out of Delaware and see the world. I did both. Was on 5 ships, 8 oceans/seas, 6 continents (all but Australia), in over 30 countries and stationed in 3. Been as far east as Pakistan, as far west as Thailand, as far north as Nova Scotia and as far south as Antarctica (13 months). I picked up enough of 8 languages to get something to eat, not get lost and carry on a limited conversation.
(USN, retired)
