The only problem with that is that there is no god....and there are still atheists....
If you are saying that "if there was no belief in a god/gods, there would be no atheists", that would be a little more correct... Everyone would already be atheist, but there would probably not be a term for it if it was the universal norm...
PS... two words.... spell check . . . .lol

Yes since atheist was an invented word to counter religious belief, yet non belief is natural in every persons infancy. In other words, if you go all the way back to the dawn of man ever before* religion was invented, you would have no atheists because there were no Gods to believe in the first place.

There are no gods, so let us not mention just one of many. Beliefs are involved here. A belief is an idea one accepts as true with no proof at all. Atheists are people who know the truth that no gods exist. Believers delude themselves into beleiving with no basis in some gods.

Allow the logic to follow its natural course in your mind; it really isn't a difficult quote to comprehend.
Theism is an established belief in one (monotheism) divine entity, or a plethora of them (polytheism).
An atheist is, then, any individual that rejects the existence of the divine, a person that opposes theism.
If the divine is proven not to exist, then there is nothing on which the atheist may base his/her rejection.
Thus, his/her identity is an atheist creates an error in logic

AthEIsts don't require "God" to be athEIst. AthEIsm is simply the belief that there is NO supreme power that created all existance, be it "God", Zues, The Force, or a flying spaghetti monster. If you want to nitpick about it, There is no God, or supreme power, or Zues, so there are no AthEIsts. There's just the religious idiots, and then those of us who are right.

A better way to put it: "If humans never invented the idea of gods, we'd have no reason to invent a word used to describe those who disbelieve in them. Therefore, there would be no atheists, because the word wouldn't exist."
Think about it. Do have a word to describe people who don't believe in fairies? No, because it's an assumption that you don't, so we have no need for it.

I see where people are coming from but it's a fallacy. As long as there is a theistic concept and people who don't ascribe to that concept then there are people who are not theists and therefore people who are by definition atheists.
The existence of a deity is not necessary for there to be theists or atheists.

if there were no love, would there be no hate?
the question makes sense as does yours, now the answer might be one in which you don't want to hear.. but, either way you have to find the answer in yourself and not by asking others. what do you think it means?

It means if there was no concept of god, there would be no atheists who disagreed with the concept of god. You can't believe there isn't something if the idea of it has never been conceived.
