i dont smoke but i know some people who do..

one reason is that some people live more stressful lives than others (depending on the type of work they do, etc). Some people find a way with dealing with stress by smoking. It makes them feel better. Taking away their cigarettes would be like taking away their medicine.

Smoking hasn't been banned because it is just too easy to grow tobacco and cure it for home use. Remember that prohibition didn't work, and frankly neither are the laws that criminalize marijuana. There is no point in a ban that cannot be realistically enforced. It really is an issue of civil liberty also, many would say.
In addition, the tobacco companies have powerful lobbies and are not going to let a law banning use of tobacco get through the legislature. If it did there would be thousands of acres of land that had to be converted for other use, large corporations would have to change what they manufacture or go bankrupt, and they would have to lay off thousands of people who work in the tobacco industry. It is all just politics and money...and money rules the world.

You may have not noticed but the smoking ban has caused hundreds of pubs to close, thousands of jobs losses, and one pub group reported a 17% loss in revenue, so many more places will close. People are not socialising (the ban is anti-social) and more kids are drinking in pubs, drug/cocaine use in on the mega increase in pubs, and double the number of people are hanging around on the streets. The reminder of people are all drinking and smoking at home around their children! The police can never have any control of this, its another bad move by government!

Why don't we ban drinking or why don't we ban religion, or why don't we ban schooling. Because it takes away the freedom of the individual and that goes on and on and ends with the freedom charter. Why is smoking such a big evil and alcohol is ok? I think drinking breaks up more families, kills more people on the roads and gets alot more people in trouble than tobacco.

I think smoking should be banned in public places where it can harm other people, but people should have the freedom to do what they want in the privacy of their own home. Too many of our freedoms are taken away by people that think that we dont know enough to make decisions on our own. As long as the warning are posted clearly, which they are, we should have the freedom to choose.
For the record, I am a non-smoker

but yeah anywho. i have no idea why not to ban smoking.... if anything im all for it...

i mean people are addicted to it and they will move away if they don't have the freedom to smoke whenever they pleasee.
and the cigarrete industry will lose money. from whatever state and for more states do this the industry will lose all money anf fail...

prohibition is not a good thing, if you ban somthing people will get it someway, check out the USA history of prohibition of booze in the 1920's and see what happened then. if it is banned then otherwise lawabiding people will get there supplies somewhere and become criminals.

there is also the taxes, many governments tax smokes to the hilt, think how much tax money they would loose if they made smoking illeagle

Cigarettes may be one of the leading causes for death, but they're also one of the leading sales in America today. They date back years and years, and usually were only used in sacred ceremonies between Indians, until it was introduced to Americans. Ever since it's been popular. You can't get rid of it no matter how deadly, because it's still selling like crazy. Also people choose to smoke and choose to accept consequences. Like people choose to eat McDonalds every day which leads to their obesity, people will choose to smoke all the time which would lead to their lung cancer.

it is the start of the taking away of rights. i smoke but i am not 4 smoking and wouldnt encourage it but regaurdless of weather u r 4 it or not, if the government is alowed to start taking away the small rights then it will start taking the larger ones with them. i am against guns in a house (other than 4 police and hunting) but i wouldnt vote for them to take that right away.
