My mormon friend claims that in the Bible, there is a verse that foretells about the book of mormon. I say there's not. I have read the book of mormon, and it contradicts it self and the Bible, so it can't be right. Nevertheless, I am asking. Is there such a verse?

It may be "I have other sheep that are not of this flock". I can't remember where that is. I have seen a long Mormon breakdown of Bible passages they see as referring to them, but i think the point is that there would be no need for a further testament after the Bible, which is usually understood as being for the whole world. Why would there be more?

The beginning of the Book of Mormon, from 1 Nephi 1:1, reads:

"... I make a record of my proceedings in my days.
2 Yea, I make a record in the language of my father, which consists of the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians.
3 And I know that the record which I make is atrue; and I make it with mine own hand; and I make it according to my knowledge. "

To me, that sounds defensive. It sounds that the person who wrote that is expecting criticism as to its authenticity, and that for me proves it isn't genuine.

You do realize that every single branch and/or denomination of Christianity interprets the bible differently don't you? In fact, I would say that if 20 people read the same verse, you'd have 20 different opinions and insights on that verse.

Have you really read the book of mormon? Or do you just like to parrot what you've heard? Show us where the book of mormon contradicts itself. For every contradiction you find, I can find at least 50 so-called contradictions in the bible.

Where does the Book of Mormon contradict the Bible?

Many Mormons point to several passages in the Bible as "predictions" in Ezekiel 37:16-28.

In fact, the passage is a reference to Israel and Judah. God instructed Ezekiel to to write on a stick "For Joseph: The stick of Ephraim". Mormons believe God instructed Ezekiel to write on the stick the book of Mormon.

Kag:

As others have indicated, John 10:16 refers to other sheep that Christ would visit. The fulfillment of this prophecy occurred in the Book of Mormon, 3 Nephi chapter 11.

The verse in Ezekiel as others have explained, clearly indicates two books (scrolls) one from the house of Judah, or the Bible, and one from the house of Ephraim, of the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon authors were decendents from Ephraim as they recorded their geneaology.

If you have some contradictory verses that you would like to discuss, please let me know. Perhaps you should ask God (James 1:5). Surely he is wiser than those in this forum. Good luck!

I've studied both the Book of Mormon and the Bible for many years and don't recall any contradictions. I believe they are both the word of God as communicated through inspired prophets.

I believe the following verses in the Bible refer to the Book of Mormon or to the people who wrote it.

I hear people say there are contradiction in the book of Mormon, yet they are never able to point them out. There are many prophesies of the book of Mormon, but belief in God is about faith and receiving a witness of that faith. Not proof.

Ezekial 37 (in particular, verses 15-17)
http://scriptures.lds.org/en/ezek/37/15-17#15

The "stick of Judah" refers to the Bible... They are written words primarily from descendents of Judah. The Book of Mormon is a record of an ancient people who were descendents of Joseph, in particular, his son Ephraim.

My dear, there are thousands of verses within the Bible that also contradict themselves if you do not comprehend what they are saying. Understanding scripture takes a lifetime (as you well know, if you study the Bible). Patient persistence (and open-mindedness) is the key to understanding.

The only verses that Mormons claim to "predict" the coming of the book of mormon are ones that mention other scripts, and people from other lands. IMO, this is just an excuse for people to commercialize on something that they interpret. BTW, I WAS mormon.

It is this verse:
BOOK
Isaiah 29:11
The whole vision has become to you like the words of a BOOK that is sealed, which men deliver to one who is literate, saying, “Read this, please.” And he says, “I cannot, for it is sealed.”

The verse says a bok that is sealed and is very vage about whether it will be found again or whether it will ever be open, but this is the verse they use.
