To play my PS3 online can I just hook up my ethernet cable from my modem to the back of my PS3 or do I need a router?

You can connect directly through your modem with an ethernet cable, or you can go wireless with a wireless G router.

Hi,
your answer to the question is to play online to your ps3 or to even surf the web on the ps3 you do not need an ethernet cable from your modem. Routers are used to just send that connection wirelessly. The only ps3 that does not support wifi connection is the 20 GB model. However this model is not sold in most stores, and are mostly on sale online. But with the other models (20, 60, 80) GB models you can put in an ethernet cable if you want. I have a 60 GB model and use wifi because my modem is on the other side of the room... so it would look ugly just having a line across the ground connected to the ps3...

Anyways your answer is you only need an ethernet cable in the 20 GB because it does not have wifi

Modem is fine. But if you want to have a PC hooked up too, then I think you gotta get a router.

Modem is fine but if you want it to be wireless instead of wired, buy the wireless from bestbuy or gamestop....wired is better and cheaper so good LUCK!!
