both depending on the program.

Depends really on how much time they are spending glued to the tv, what programs they are watching....if they are spending all their free time sitting down inactive watching tv they are not doing themselves any favors with the inactivity and the lack of stimulation and learning they would get from using their brain in more imaginative play. Also there are a lot of shows on tv that really send out a negative message to kids with un realistic body images, violence, abuse ect....so you really need to be there and know what they are watching and moniter it. Watching a few hours a day after school or early evening is fine as long as they are also doing other activities which stimulate their imagination and creativity.

depends on the use. and what you're comparing it to.
probably for educational shows for a very limited time it could be positive.
but mostly negative - electronic babysitter.
real attention from adults or playing outside or with other kids is better.
i think overall tv has a negative impact.
but it could be positive if used well by parents.

it depends on what you LET them watch. personally, i believe that a parent should moniter what their children are watching, and as they think, upgrade their viewing opinions in the manner that they feel is comfortable. a child may be eight, but much more mature than an eighteen year old, and that's the truth! but seriously, educational programs and videos are nice, and those "creepy" kids shows have some value in them.

I guess that would depend on what you let your children watch and how much time you allow your children to watch TV.
