I dont watch a great amount of tv maybe an hour or two a day, at the most.
I just bought a 40'' 1080p samsung lcd, and one of my relatives said it wont last, but I've heard from other sources that they last up to around 65,000 hours thats some...12-14 years for a heavy watcher, any facts out there?

A LCD TV differs from a plasma TV in that the display is lit passively by a fluorescent tube on a reflective backing. With a plasma TV each individual pixel is powered to produce light.

The light source in the LCD TV can be replaced as one single item, but if a pixel fails on a plasma screen it's failed for good.

On that basis, I think that you need have no concerns, especially as you don't watch TV that often.

Hope this helps.

All manufacturers quote 60,000 hours, but as you will be aware faults can occur on the Tv at anytime.
