They're new neighbours. I've introduced myself but they never talk and they run away when we are outside. (LOL).

They're building like a granny flat under their house or something without building permits. If it is a flat it will impact on my amenity by reason of the increased density, noise and parking requirements.

Should I hit the report buton and have them deleted - putting my name on the public record?

What is the Religious and Spiritual thing to do in these circumstances?

Ask 'em if you can help them...then you will know what they are doing...and you will have been generous with your time....and you will not have made an enemy...

My brother bought a very small lot on the side of my moms home from my mom. He built a home there. When the diggers came and dug the dirt they ran into alot of sand. Things went as planned but as they were pouring the basement someone noticed the house directly behind my brothers new home looked as though the garage had shifted a bit. Sure enough it was due to the fact that everything was built on sand instead of solid dirt that the land began to cave. My brother was getting permits and doing all to code. But the neighbor that we had been friends with for 40 years flipped and would not accept any apology or an offer for the digging company to make things right. She just had to sue him. She paid a lawyer and got exactly what my brother had offered in the first place. all was well except the damage to our hearts.

So I would suggest you do or say noting unless you are certain that there is something that could endanger someone if it is not inspected. Like gas lines or something of that nature or the land caving in. Best of luck and god would not want you to stand there and allow the neighbor to blow the house up.

Romans 12:18 If possible, as far as it depends upon YOU, be peaceable with all men.

You may have to live next to these people for a long time. Try to "catch" them in the yard and casually mention that you noticed that their building permit was not posted like it should be. They may not know they need one. Many communities don't require them. Or, say that you were considering a similar project and you wanted to ask them how difficult it was to get a permit. Either way it lets them know that they should have one. If they respond by getting one, then you have done all that you can do. If they don't, then you should call the building inspector. You don't have to give them your name.

Well, if they are skittish and run when they see you outside then perhaps you actually should knock on the door and have a gentle talk with them. When I moved from the country to the suburbs I didn't know half of the rules and regulations. I didn't know about permits and such. Maybe they just don't know and are shy.

If the direct approach does not work, you can then go to the town/city with a clear conscience knowing you did everything you could to do it working with them.

I don't quite get how one granny flat has that much impact on your neighborhood. But I daresay an anonymous report would be doable. All you need is to find the right phone number.

if you want to be a jerk you can report them but find away around having your name put on the public record or you can simply talk to them . If you talk to them you can't go back and report them because it will result in your property being damaged

One day, you'll need to exceed the noise ordsinance for a covert building project. Just wait your turn and if he complains...remind him how patient you were with his Grandma Cabana!

You can probably make an anonymous complaint to Building and Safety office in your area.

The Christian thing to do would be to love your neighbour. Barring this, why don't you quit spying on them at least.

Notify your town's zoning board. You can say you want to remain anonymous. They'll check it out.

It is your neighbor's responsibility to seek R&S guidance for what they are planning and how it effects others, not yours.
