The better phys. shape your in when you get there the easier the PT will be, you will have more energy through out basic and have an advantage over some of the other recruits. Good luck thank you for serving. Simper Fi to those who know and little dog you will soon know.

There isn't too much you can do mentally. But get yourself ready physically. Running (5-6 miles at a time, sometimes more), push-ups, sit-ups, carrying heavy backpacks.
Learn the basic drill and ceremony stuff- marching, facing movements. Your recruiter should be able to give you a checklist of what you should learn. You may even get a promotion by completing it.
Just decide what job you want in the Marines. Look at your career options for during your military service and after it.

This accurate type of information is unavailable on Yahoo Answers.
You must visit with, or telephone your hometown military Recruiters for the very latest information. (A visit is best when getting your information.)
Right now, start making a list of all the questions you can think of. When the time comes, take your list of questions with you to the hometown military Recruiter and "pick their brain" to ensure all your questions are answered.
Also ask what types of high school courses you would also need to graduate high school, which would be to your advantage for your potential future job, when enlisting in the military.

#1 get into shape, lots of running.
#2 Learn as much about the Corps (History, Command Structure, Ect.) as possible by reading any and all manuals you can get your hands on.
#3 Familiarize yourself with fire arms.
#4 do not pay any attention to the stupid critical remarks posted by others. It is a admirable thing, an honorable career and life. You will be defending defenseless Americans and protecting our way of life. Your service to our country should not devolve to a political discussion.
Good luck and god bless!

Get in shape is number one. It will make boot camp easier and if you're going combat infantry, possibly save your life. You have no constitutional rights when in the military. But you take an oath to protect it. You will be treated in accordance to UCMJ, United Code of Military Justice. That's your new constitution. Make friends, do as you're told, listen carefully, respect everyone one you meet and you'll be fine. God bless you. You're doing something that will change your life for the better for ever. And one more thing,..........thank you!

-still serving your country,
-same perks
- BETTER real world technical training.
Also - consider going in AFTER college as an officer
