It's a state of mind, it's all relative and it's all a self-fullfilling prophecy.

If you expect something to be easy, but it turned out to be more difficult then your mind classifies it as "hard" and vice versa.

As time goes by, you don't remember the details, you just remember it was easy or hard and you associate the easiness and hardness to your saying - you reienforce the "importance" of the saying "easy is hard and hard is easy" (A self-fulfilling prophecy).

Sort of like Friday the 13th is supposed to be a bad luck day... we've had many Friday the 13ths with no problems at all, but when some does go wrong on that day we attribute it to Friday the 13th, but ignore when days like Monday the 1st or Thursday the 8th... etc, since there is no "warning" about those days, only Friday the 13th.
