One of my loved ones is trying to stop an addiction cold turkey. I've seen the list of withdrawal symptoms and she's hitting them like a checklist. One of the problems is that while she sleeps deeper, her dreams are much more vivid and more along the lines of insane nightmares. From what I've read in psych books, it's basically tapping into the fears that the addictions were masking. That's all well and good, but she'd like to deal with that AFTER her body detoxes. Is there any sort of natural supplement that is good for helping with withdrawal symptoms? Right now, she is taking calcium magnesium supplements.

I went through Demerol withdrawl, and I was messed up for a week. the only thing I took was ibuprophen for some relief of pulled muscles that had been cramped for days. i didn't eat for 7 days. You just have to detox yourself ,drink lots of water, you sweat lots of it out, and it helps your body get rid of the drug by peeing it out. but there's no magic herb going to help you.

Just a good diet and daily routine would be the best natural help.

Plenty of excercise during the day. Then maybe try some wild lettuce. This can be smoked or brewed into a tea and has calming and very mild opium-like properties.

Or herbal slleping pills probably have this in along with other calming herbs.

If cannabis is not illegal in your country then you could give this a try as it is perfectly natural and very medicinal if you pick the right strain. -WARNIG it is ILLEGAL IN USA & UK so do not try if you live here or anywhere else where it is outlawed.

I would try detoxing the body simultaneously with massage, accupuncture, lymph drainage, colonics or colon cleansing, chelation IV therapy. Even body wraps, sauna, anything to get it out. Some of these substances, legal and illegal, are horrid withdrawal effects. It is basically chemical poisoning and is very painful.

Depends on what she is having DT's from....If she is withdrawling from ANY OPIATE like Heroin and Most narcotic pain meds...and yes methadone is also a pain med.Coming from experience....I was addicted to pain meds and Like an IDIOT i tried using methadone to come off.WRONG...ALL drugs used in detoxing programs are bad.Back to the question.Like I said...if its from any opiate/opiod substance TRY KRATOM...."Bali" strand is best for that type of withdrawals. It can also help in alcohol withdrawls..Just type in kratom in your search engine and you will find all you need to know about this life saving plant..You can get it directly from online dealers or EBAY.

She especially needs pectin, which will help her body rid itself of the toxins more easily I'm not sure which supplements might be good, but these are all foods that shoud really help:

1. Green leafy vegetables. Eat them raw, throw them into a broth, add them to juices. Their chlorophyll helps swab out environmental toxins (heavy metals, pesticides) and is an all-round liver protector.
2. Lemons. You need to keep the fluids flowing to wash out the body and fresh lemonade is ideal. Its vitamin C - considered the detox vitamin - helps convert toxins into a water - soluble form that’s easily flushed away.
3. Watercress. Put a handful into salads, soups, and sandwiches. The peppery little green leaves have a diuretic effect that helps move things through your system. And cress is rich in minerals too.
4. Garlic. Add it to everything - salads, sauces, spreads. In addition to the bulb's cardio benefits, it activates liver enzymes that help filter out junk.
5. Green tea. This antioxidant-rich brew is one of the healthiest ways to get more fluids into your system. Bonus: It contains catechins, which speed up liver activity.
6. Broccoli sprouts. Get 'em at your health-food store. They pack 20 to 50 times more cancer-fighting, enzyme-stimulating activity into each bite than the grown-up vegetable.
7. Sesame seeds. They're credited with protecting liver cells from the damaging effects of alcohol and other chemicals. For a concentrated form, try tahini, the yummy sesame seed paste that’s a staple of Asian cooking.
8. Cabbage. There are two main types of detoxifying enzymes in the liver; this potent veggie helps activate both of them. Coleslaw, anyone?
9. Psyllium. A plant that’s rich in soluble fiber, like oat bran, but more versatile. It mops up toxins (cholesterol too) and helps clear them out. Stir powdered psyllium into juice to help cleanse your colon, or have psyllium-fortified Bran Buds for breakfast.
10. Fruits, fruits, fruits. They're full of almost all the good things above - vitamin C, fiber, nutritious fluids, and all kinds of antioxidants. Besides, nothing tastes better than a ripe mango, fresh berries, or a perfect pear. In this particular case, green apples are especially helpful.

I'd also STRONGLY recommend a detox program; she has a much better chance of staying clean if she goes through one of those puppies.
