Get the 80GB PS3 because it can play most PS2 games, the 40GB PS3 can't play any PS2 games.
The PS3's internet is free for life.
Benefits?- built in wifi, built in hard drive, blu ray-dvd-and CD playback, backwards compatibility, install linux, built in web browser, free online, and soon Playstation Home, which will release early 2008, etc.
I would rather have a PS3, which is why I bought one.
Also, the PS3 is the most reliable console. The PS3 has a defect rate under .2% while the xbox 360's failure rate is 33% due to overheating, design flaws, and the red ring of death.
Assassins Creed and Call of Duty 4 are both on the PS3.

If you live in the UK, you should buy the PAL version, otherwise ps2 games and dvds that are in a different region wont work. I personally bought the 20gb model which isnt available anymore, so buy the 60gb. It has internal wireless and card readers and nearly complete backwards compatibility. Call Of Duty 4 is out, so is assasins creed. And GTA4, gran turismo 5, metalgear guns of the patriots are on there way. I would not rather have the 360, too much hassle. All xboxes have been flawed. the internet is free, and has an excellent website to download demos and movies and so on from

Well first of all, it all depends on how you wanna use your PS3. If you plan on using it for gaming, movies, music, internet, game demos and use a lot of memory then obviously go with the 80gb. The advantage of 80gb vs. 40gb is that you also get B/C (Backwards Compatibility) so you can play most PS2 games. If you really only want to play PS3 games, then 40gb is the way to go, you don't get B/C, or a lot of memory, but you get whats needed, Blu-ray, wifi, everything 80gb has except B/C, 40gb of memory and memory card reader (which you can buy as an external unit if you want).
The 360 is the wrong way to go. You get inferior hardware, locked onto dx9, graphics that are more this-gen then next-gen, not to mention an unreliable piece of hardware. Also you dont get free online, included wifi, HDDVD player so you can see how the PS3 is more worth it.
Both COD4, and Assassins Creed are out and I must say Call of Duty 4 is absolutely amazing! graphics, game play, Online....all spectacular and totaly worth $60. Good games coming are Haze (fps) & GTA IV.
So enjoy your purchase, and I hope you have a great experience with your future PS3.
