It depends what flavor and what country the dorritos or cheetos are produced in.
well i would say that they are haram in the us. in usa and Canada dorritos would be haraam because they use pork ingredients. Unless the package would be marked Kosher.
bye!!!!
=) =D :] :-) :oP

The arabic word Haram means unlawful. The following items have been categorically spelled out as being Haram by jurists in light of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammad :

1. Pig
2. Blood
3. Carnivorous animals
4. Almost all reptiles and insects
5. The bodies of dead animals
6. Halal animals which are not slaughtered according to the Islamic Law.
7. Wine, Ethyl Alcohol, and Spirits.

The above mentioned items are Haram and should be avoided by all Muslims.

[5. The bodies of dead animals ]

does that mean you have to eat the animals while they are still alive?

[And then there's this site that says Cheetos contains enzymes that they can't trace the source of, so it's best to avoid.]

Many enzymes are shared across species (strong evidence for evolution) so how can you differentiate between say a CyP450 from a pig and a CyP450 from a cow if they are identical? What is it about the molecules of the swine-derived enzyme, which are identical to the bovine-derived molecules, that makes them haram? BTW, I can show you (statistically, with complex transport mechanisms) that you have in you right now many atoms and molecules that were once part of some pig or other. Living on this planet anywhere near or with people who have pigs makes this unavoidable.

(Note: CyP450 does vary btwn cows & pigs, there are other enzymes that don't, I just picked CyP450 because I have worked with it.)

Salaam Alaykum,
There is a brand of chips made from Moon Lodge and distributed by Keefe Commissaries..they had the Islamic crescent as well as the Kosher symbols. A K or a U inside a circle. I feel more companies like Lay's should add the crescent or write Halal like Keefe products.
Wasalaam

There are some who say they are not Halal:
http://www.muslimconsumergroup.com/Events.do?menu=Events&eventAction=eventdetail&eventId=307 but that doesn't necessarily mean they are haram. Just not Halal certified.

There are also those that say they are not haram:

And then there's this site that says Cheetos contains enzymes that they can't trace the source of, so it's best to avoid. But it does list the kosher certified items that we can consume without worry:

Good question - I'm not too sure though!

Alhamdulile I don't eat that much junkfood anyway, so it doesn't really affect me. But to get the best answer, you should probably email the companies yourself - they'll be able to tell you if there is any pork in their products.

Salam.
