San Onofre on the 5 freeway just south of San Clemente.
and just south of Temecula. These checks are open most of the time but close occasionally for weather and other unexplained reasons.

PS: once upon a time I was a smuggler and the checks never were much of a problem. They close for rainy days and crowded conditions on a pretty regular basis!

I don't know about checkpoints, but my teacher, who is an immigrant and has legal status now, told me today that only immigration officers can demand to see your documents, so if a cop asks, you don't have to turn them over...hope that is of some assistance.

well, if you are coming from Mexico, then there is San Clemente. Another one is if you take the 15 N instead of the 5 which is the road through San Clemente, on the 15 you will encounter another one. I believe still in county of San Diego.

it depends there are two permanent ones 1- 15@ rainbow canyon and 1-5 in san onofre and the border patrol usually puts temporary ones on state highways or back access roads
