The idea of gods cause pain and suffering, but it is basically the followers of gods that perpetuate and deliver this torment.

Free Will. I don't wanna rape anywone, but someone out there does. I don't want to kill anybody, but someone doesn't mind doing it. Is God supposed to go ballistic and zap every evil-doer with thunderbolts? Whose morality would such judgment be based on? Compared to God, we're all f'd up as far as righteousness is concerned. If you've read the Old Testament or at least went to Sunday School as a kid, you'd know he tried that before. Noah and his kin were the best he could find. Not much would stand if he tried that again. An important part of Christianity is to take a conscious stand for people who are being abused, ignored and taking advantage of. God gave us a free will and he's not going to take it back. It's up to us to use it as an instrument to serve him and do what's right. Not just in our personal lives, but also in accordance to serving others and help make this world a bit less messed up. Anyone can complain about things not being right. Few people can show the strength to make a difference. It's a big task, so we're going to need help. That's the part where courage, faith, love, and ultimately, God all come into play. God has given us more power than we realize, but nothing will ever come of it if we sit around asking God 'whys' and 'why nots' while we don't even try to do anything.

God allows free will and will doesn't stop the consequences that free will creates. There is evil in the world but that evil did not come from God. So generally pain and suffering comes from our own choices or the choices of people around us or sometimes bad things just happen. God will give you the strength to deal with whatever is happening in your life, but He will not put a bubble around anyone and only allow good things to happen to them. If you choose to serve God, you have to trust that he is in control through the good and the bad. And if you choose not to trust in God, then you can't blame him for bad stuff without acknowledging him for every good thing in your life and in the world either.

I would say that God allows it, or at the very least, He created the situations and conditions that lead to pain and suffering and chooses to do nothing to rectify His mistakes. Of course, this theory presupposes that God actually exists, which those in the throes of pain and suffering would be the first to cast doubt on that.

God allows pain and suffering because He wants you to learn something from it.

God would never want us to feel pain, that's why he says to Love One Another. If we all did that... there would be no room for pain and suffering in this world. Unfortunately the world today isn't perfect, so try to look at these moments as obstacles in the path of happiness... they are opportunities to make you a bigger and better person after these types of moments.

God allows us to go thru things including pain and suffering, BUT...HE does not CAUSE these things......imperfection from Adam and Eve and poor choices that we make in life bring about suffering.

Sin causes pain and suffering. Sin is rebellion against God.
Satan rebelled first, bringing sin into existence...he was cast out of heaven with 1/3rd of the angels who followed him for doing so.
Satan was also the one who tempted Eve to sin. It was a vast chain reaction throughout creation where sin corrupted everything. The result of sin is death.
On the last day, God does away with sin and death. Hell was made specifically for Satan and his angels...and that is where sin will go...into the lake of fire for eternity. We human beings who are sinners as well, deserve to be condemned there for following after the ways of the devil, because no sin can remain with God in heaven. Hence casting the devil and his followers out...etc..
For us, who did not rebel against God knowing without any doubt, knowing with 100% absolute certainty that God is real, and is the Absolute authority over all things as the devil and his angels did, have the only opportunity in existence which God lovingly and mercifully provides for us so we can escape the punishment for our life long sinning/rebellion against God;
by having faith in Jesus Christ that He died for our sins so we could have eternal life in heaven on His account, not ours,
God gives us the One True Way to be saved from the penalty we deserve, which is why Jesus said, "I am the Way and the Truth and the Life." I pray as many seek it out as possible while they still live...it's the only chance we have.
John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Take Care and God Bless.

I wonder that myself, but in my opinion, God doesn't create pain and suffering, but I believe he does allow it so we can live with the consequences.
1 way 2 put it:
Man is greedy and selfish (not everyone!). We always want more, and because of that there's war, and where there's war and disease, famine, and death. He doesn't like it, but he allows us 2 make our own choices, and with that comes responsibilty. We have to live with the choices we make, because that's the only way we can learn.
Now I'm not a bible scholar, but I hope that sorta helps.

God allows pain and suffering, everything that happens happens for a reason.
It is a test of Faith, like when God asked Abraham to sacrifice Issac.
