It's always hard to lose a pet. We get so close to them and they are always around when we need them. I'm sorry you had to find your pet like that. It sounds like maybe a wild animal caught him. Hopefully he didn't suffer and that should be of some comfort to you. I lost my dog last year and I just couldn't stand being without him anymore so I found another one. I was afraid at first that I would be comparing him to the old dog too much but he has really developed his own personality and I love him as much as the one I lost. Don't be afraid to adopt another dog. There are a lot of them out there that need someone to love them.

I am so sorry for your loss and do not listen to the people who say he was just a dog. I have lost several dogs and each caused me some severe depression. My dogs now I cherish and I like them way better and care way more for them than most people. Dogs are special and you can have such a strong bond with them, stronger than most any other bonds it can be devastating when you lose them. So go ahead and grieve and grieve all you want that is what you need to do. I was never able to get a new dog right away, I have always needed time to heal but I would always volunteer at the SPCA or a shelter. Being around dogs helped me to heal, they never judge you and they help you. Plus you feel real good that each day you brighten a lonely dogs day. And in time maybe you will find a new friend. But for now you have every right to be depressed and I am truly sorry you lost your best friend in such a cruel manner, it makes it worse.

Assuming you're reported the situation, there's not much you can do except go through the grieving process.

A good book that might help is "How to survive the loss of a love" - it's a very small book that has a lot of helpful wisdom in it, and it's a quick read.

After that, go back to the SPCA and rescue another dog.

My condolences.

OH I'm so very sorry to hear your little bf is gone. Thankfully he's not suffering anymore. When you're ready however (make sure you've come to terms with his passing...) be sure to adopt again from the SPCA. You'll find another gorgeous bf - make sure you keep tabs on his whereabouts though and be sure to walk him every day. Helps keep them close by you (they don't tend to run away). All the best !

You have to get it settled with yourself that Milou died. Yes it was a terrible death, but he's not in pain anymore.

Get another dog. I know you don't want another dog, you want your dog. But believe me, another dog will wiggle himself into your heart in no time, and your depression will begin to heal.
