Ah the great Altruistic question, is there such a thing? Does one give without any want for reward, not even a 'thank you' hmmm, even the maternal instincts are to the reward of healthy children. Also the doing of good for the eternal reward of Gods grace. So to answer your question nobody is truly happy either receiving or giving, it is a fundamental necessity of human cooperation to the greater survival of the species.
Edit: UPants, I was going to go further with the provocation of emotional responses but I could be here all day and nobody appreciates a nine paragraph rant.

I am far more comfortable GIVING! Some may say it is selfish to give just because it makes one feel good, but I feel far more selfish taking or receiving. I'm not even any good at accepting compliments comfortably or any kind of hand out, and I'm super stubborn when it comes to even asking for help (although I know we all need it sometimes). But giving just feels right...

I am much more comfortable giving. It has little to do with being altruistic, but with not wanting to be considered a taker. I'd much rather leave this world having given more than I took. I have a lot of relationships with people who have been taken from in one way or another all their lives. I refuse to be a part of it if I don't have to.
BUT, that being said, it is also important that the giver of a gift be able to give freely, and feel as if the gift is accepted with gratitude. So when someone chooses to be generous or kind to me, I simply say "thank you" and accept it. It is as important to them as it is to me.

Without a doubt, giving. When I receive, I feel as if I am indebted to the giver. That is also why whenever possible, I send gifts anonymously; so that the receiver does not feel as though they owe me something. A gift should be a gift with no strings attached.
My family and friends, however, have long figured out that the gift with no sender is usually from me.

Never heard the phrase, "It is better to give than to receive?" I'd rather give than receive because I like to see other people happy. Happy because of my thoughtfulness and generousness of giving. Gives you a warm feeling that you can make others happy and change lives because of giving.

Giving. I am really uncomfortable taking anything from anyone, although sometimes I do take help from my family when necessary.

Giving, for sure... although I love to get... the giving probably boosts my ego more. I have to agree with Dr. Zapp, in that altruism (or giving) is not really altruistic... we recieve alot of self-satisfaction when we give...
