My father, who lives in Vienna, bought a 2007 BMW but doesn't want the car. I would like him to ship it to me here in Philadelphia. What do I need to do to make this happen? I realize I have to hire an international shipping company, but in order to get it registered in the United States, is that complicated? Anyone with any information on not only the best company to use for shipping the car but also what is required to get it registered in the United States, that would be great. Just FYI, I am an American citizen and have car insurance already registered. Thanks so much.

Deal with an Auto shipping specialist. They will have the smoothest process to get your vehicle to it's destination with the least heartache. They will also be the least likely to goof up paperwork.

When you ship your car the company will give you paperwork to take to the DMV. It's about as tough as registering a car you bought used. Since it is a BMW 7 series in a left hand drive country you shouldn't even have to do any mods to make it road legal. You might need to replace tires if they aren't up to US spec

OK.. you could be opening a can of worms here.

When you bring a vehicle over from Europe, they are referred to as "gray market" vehicles.

Cars in Europe are not built to the same emissions/safety standards as cars built for the US market. These cars are built for sale in Europe so they are built to their standards.

As a result, before the car can be titled/registered in the US it has to be brought up to US standards. That frequently costs more than the car is worth and you may not be able to register/title the car here - which means you can't drive it here.

So, getting the car shipped here is the least of your worries.
