Hmmm good question, i suppose its because the fridge is used more widely than the freezer, for example in the middle of the night you could get up and go for a glass of milk, so thats in the fridge, so the light helps you see, but in the middle of the night you are not likely to get something out of the freezer, such as frozen chips or something! Personally, the light in the fridge has never really come in handy to me at all, when its dark i always switch the kitchen light on, rather than rely on the fridge light!

Side by Side and Built in Refrigerators always have a light in the freezer...my Built in has two.
We had a bottom drawer freezer in the basement that also had a light, but replaced it with a top freezer without realizing it didn't have one.
Explanation? There is no good one...it makes no sense!

My freezer has a light... but ti's a side-by-side fridge/freezer. A friend w/ a bottom freezer drawer has a light, too.
Maybe freezers on top figure you have the room light to see well enough and find what you want.

There is in mine - maybe the bulb's gone!
I think the train of thought is, you only go to the freezer when you are planning to cook, but you visit the fridge at all times - who hasn't sneaked downstairs for a midnight snack?!

Their is no light in the freezer because it sends off heat. Most freezers are auto set to18deg.

Good question I have wondered that to especially when I had a chest freezer could not find a thing.
I did think perhaps the light may freeze up and be dangerous but it goes out when door shut but think it must be it will freeze and not work.

Cause you've left the fridge door open. The freezer one only comes on with the door closed.

you know how there is half a year of sunlight in the arctic and antarctic regions... lands of the midnight sun... well, your freezer is so cold the light is only on half the time... the half when you're not looking...
not really, there is likely no bulb in the freezer

Ummm, maybe because the extreme cold of the freezer would cause the glass bulb to shatter and get all over your food.
