I took cold shower for 23 years in the Philippines and I am now presently residing in the US. We had a hot water problem in our new house and I told my husband to take cold shower he said cold water doesn't clean him because cold water can't kill bacteria , does it mean I was dirty for 23 years taking cold shower? Please let me know

Yes or sort of...
You get clean with cold water "but not completely".
To get completely clean you need warm water, as hot as you can, and lather with soap and if possible with the sponge to get rid of all old skin and what the pores store in. Rinse, and then get all the cold water you want.
-The warm (as hot as you can) water "opens up" your pores.
-Soap will help out to totally clean out what the pores have inside.
-Cold water will "close up" your pores.
So, if you want to totally clean your body, use warm water, at least when you're using the soap.

No, he is wrong. Even warm water doesn't kill bacteria, but what is important is that you wash the dirt (that contains most of the bacteria) of your skin, and cold water is as useful as hot water. You need soap for both, because without it it is difficult to get the dirt off - the soap (or any other detergent) softens the dirt particles and they go away. It is true that warm water is a little more effective - it washes the dirt faster from the skin, but you can get equally clean by washing with cold water if done properly.

you would actually need boiling water to kill germ. Hot water DOES clean you better for only one reason. The hotter the water, the more solvent power it gets. Hotter water will rinse away dirt and soap better, that's all. It's a bit better, but a cold shower is better than nothing.

No I actually think cold showers are better because they clean your hair more and they make it shiny and smooth which is good for your hair. It still cleans you. I don't take cold showers very often because I am always cold so I will be colder if I take cold showers. I normally only take them in the summer and I actually like them better so I don't think if you take cold showers that you won't get clean!

I hope I helped!

In order to get the temperature hot enough to kill bacteria, it would burn you. Besides that, there are anti-bacterial soaps. And besides even that, bacteria are part of our existence. Every surface of every person place and thing on this planet has bacteria. Most bacteria are beneficial and necessary to our existence. Some bacteria are harmful, true, but to eliminate them is also to eliminate the beneficial bacteria. And beyond even that point is the point that you simply CANNOT eliminate all bacteria and to trouble yourself even thinking about it is a huge waste of time. His statement is the most ridiculous I've heard in a while.

In short, a cold shower is just fine.

i don't think you were dirty for 23 years. Hot water probably kills more bacteria but if you wash well you should be A OK =)

i'd not imagine so because warm water dries out your epidermis. even as your epidermis receives too dry, it starts to crack, leaving you weak to bacteria/an infection shifting into. a cold bathe sounds depressing (even if a speedy chilly rinse seals the cuticle of your hair, making it look a lot shinier), and warmth water with cleansing soap is sufficient to kill germs.

No. cold or hot doesn't make you clean, it's the friction that "rubs" germs off your skin. We use alcohol lotion in surgery, not hot water.
If you needed to heat the water, you would need to heat the water so hot it would cause burns on your skin

No.If the hot water was what got you clean by killing bacteria the water would have to be so hot it would burn you.

the water isn't what cleans you, hot or cold, it's the soap that cleans you. Use enough soap, and it doesn't matter what temp the shower is.
