I've been try to think of a time when Christianity brought peace to a region. Going through history when Christians come into power they immediately go to war with pagans and other Christians who don't believe exactly what they do. The Romans and Egyptians however were very tolerant of other peoples believes. I didn't mean peaceful as in they never killed anyone, but they were for the most part out to exterminate an entire race or religion. Once they took over a land, for what ever reason, they didn't adopt policies of convert of die. And this is generally speaking.

Peaceful is not always right-I am a Celtic Pagan and my ancestors were warriors. So were the Saxons and the Vikings and the Hun and many other Pagan cultures. However no Pagan culture much cared what religion others followed.

You are right that Pagan cultures never adopted the 'convert to my religion or die' thing though yes.

If you mean modern Pagans on here-well we share our ancestors view that it is best to let others believe what they wish to provided they don't bother you.

"why were pagans more peaceful and open than christians?" Romans and Egyptians had plenty of bloody wars and conqered many places. It isn't religion that is the problem. I think the question should be "why are people so intolerent and blood thirsty. There are peaceful Christians and peaceful pagans. There has been fighting sense the begining of time, over many different reasons. There were plenty of Christians who were killed for there beliefs as well as.

These would be the pagan who were feeding christians to the lions in the Roman games for the amusement of the plebes? Those pagans?

The Pax Romana was enforced by war. Julius Caesar spent most of his life at war in Gaul, Britain, Thrace and Egypt.

I guess Alexander was basically a peacable fellow, yeah?

War has been a constant throughout history. Christianity changed nothing, either better or worse.

Quit deluding yourself to feed your preconceived notions and start reading history without a bias.

Pagans were never more peaceful. Where did you learn this lie? I have never seen nor heard any such thing in fifty years of looking? Have you seriously studied ancient cultures? Death and slavery were a part of life. Other cultures were tolerated AFTER conquest. It is always the diplomatic thing to do.

Haven't you heard of the Assyrians? Known for their fierce fighting and love of killing. How about the Medes and Persians? Or the Vikings? Didn't Greece and Rome conquer the known world of their time? How about Ghengis Khan or even the Japanese Emperor Hirohito?

No, I don't think Pagans are any less violent than Christians. It's just that Christians should know better!

They killed for other reasons. and the Egyptians did worse then simple murder.

And The "Human Sacrifice" is garbage. They where rare and even then they tended to be willing.

Christianity saved very few people really in the respect of the material world.

It had other things that made it ok. But It tends to cause more death, destruction, and hate in the physical plane. (Im not going to bother with the other planes of existence. And if Christians are smart they wont either becuse the damage there is worse)

You do not have your facts correct. Many thousands of people were killed by the roman emperor because they were Christians and did not want to worship the pagan gods. as you know from the records, the ancient people would kill left and right without much remorse, only the christain faith as well as the jewish but more the followers of jesus preached love of neighbour even of enemies.

Are you serious? Roman Emperor Nero, ever heard of him? Christians thought he was the anti-Christ for how he treated them. He hung them up as lamps because they displeased him! What about the 400 year slavery to Egypt that the Jews went through?
You got to be kidding me. The Romans destroyed the temple in Jerusalem because the Jews wanted to worship how they worshiped, and Rome wouldn't let them. Religious persecution has been one of the biggest forms of hidden genocide ever since Egypt in the ancient times.
Read up on history, buddy. You will find that ALL forms of society have been warmongers. Don't try to pin it on Christians.

Hello,

Long before Christianity heads rolled and cities burned under pagan empires just the same. There was no Utopia.

Are you referring to the same Romans and Egyptians that enjoyed public torture and cage fights to the death for entertainment? Do you mean the folks that conquered most of the 'known world' by way of the sword? Wasn't it the Romans that conquered the Egyptians?

What form of peace was that?
