But once I get up, the pain goes away for the rest of the day. (No history of knee problems.) For the past 20+ years they have always popped when I get out of bed, or get up from sitting for a while in a chair.
I have sleep apnea, do not use my CPAP regularly, and am currently being treated for lower back pain.

These can be symptoms of osteoarthritis but the only way to find out for sure what is going on is to see your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think is going on.
