I think that Mormons are sincere but sincerely wrong. The Gospel they preach is not the original Gospel of Christ which was in trusted to the Roman Catholic Church. Study Church History and you will see the error in the LDS Church.

The majority of my family is Mormon, though my immediate family isn't.
I don't think they believe that you get your own planet to rule. Rather, I think they believe that the righteous reach a state of divinity and live eternally with God in his kingdom. Those of lesser righteousness live eternally in lower kingdoms. I could be wrong, though.
Contrary to popular belief, you can still be Mormon and drink tea, coffee, alcohol, etc. (A few of my cousins looooove Mtn. Dew) The majority choose not to, though, because they want to get recommended to enter the temple. To do so, a Mormon must follow a set of rules that includes abstinence from tea and whatnot.
Polygamy is forbidden by the church nowadays. If you hear of a Mormon polygamist, they are not affiliated with the official LDS church.
They believe in the pre-mortal existence and that you choose your mortal family before birth.
They also believe that married couples and families are bound together eternally.
I also think that they believe that, upon death, your spirit will receive it's physical body back in the afterlife. This would explain the Mormon aspiration of having a healthy body...
Non-Mormons are not allowed to enter the temple, and even amongst Mormons a person must be recommended by a church official to enter. This is why Mormon weddings may have two ceremonies - the bonding ceremony in the temple and the ring ceremony in the church sanctuary that the non-Mormons can attend.
Missionaries are not permitted on boats during their mission in order to avoid accidental drowning and whatnot. This prevents the unfortunate "Your son drowned," call home.
And that's all I can think of.

What I know about Mormons:
1. It is another religion.
2. It is in the Christian family of denominations.
3. Many Christians don't like Mormons and think they are a cult.
4. There was a pretty good TV show on HBO about them.
5. The two Mormon families I know seem like great people.

I know that Mormons believe that Jesus Christ appeared in the Americas after his resurrection. I know that Joseph Smith was the founder. I know that Smith supposedly got his information from some gold plates. I know that Mormons used to believe in polygamy and that it has been outlawed now, but some small sects still practice it. I know that Mormons don't believe in the trinity concept like most other Christian denominations.
That's about all I know.

ex-mormon, mormonism led me into atheism, because in my opinion the prophets when I was growing up (80's) preached to pull yourself up with your own bootscraps and therefore a person does not really need a relationship with jesus, one only needs themselves and their Godly (the force) powers to make it thru, which leds to atheisms, making oneself your own God and Savior. It also led me to wicca, the god and goddess(es), and spells, once again fromt he priesthood, only women could now have their own powers in wicca.
My patriarticle blessing was nothign like a blessing, it was more like a fortunetelling of how bad I was, so I burned that.
The burning feeling I tried to help me find out who mr. right was and that did not help becaue all the men I prayed for I got a burning feeling for, and the churhc is not polyandry so that proved to be a false trick of the mind.
the church in Ut believed in the doctrine of Mary being marrid to God in the pre-existance, a Journal of discourses teaching, and so my dad took it literally and made me a daughter wife literally, and tried to practise a ruff form of polygamy on me.
I also found a dsyfunction in UT with the mothers getting overwhelmed with too many kids so they would make their oldest a spouce no matter hwat th esex of the child was and make them take care of the kids and clean their house, something an alcoholic would do as well.
This and other things led me to believed that this restored truth was nothign but alot of hupla that did not bring joy to anyone but joseph smith, and so I left.

I know alot about the LDS. What I know would be impossible to put in the yahoo answers forum. What did you study for months? The church History, Meso-America, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, heresy, what? I have family members that became Mormon, I live in one of the largest Mormon areas per capita in the world (and no that is not SLC), and studied world religions (undergrad minor) and am a grad student in Theology.
If you want you can email me and I we can "compare what I know with what you think." But only if you are willing to actually cite and cross reference sources.

Pastor Art and many others show their ignorance.
Joseph Smith was not hung by an angry Mob- and I need to look into it, but it seems like he was in his 30's when he died. Yeah great research you have done there Pastor.

I think of what I learn after three or four years sharing time with a LDS school (and later university) mate and what I read of the Book of Mormon during that time.
Many of the things that does not fit are right at the beggining stories about Nefi and family. How come an israelite living in Jerusalem, during the time of prophet Isaiah, did not knew of which tribe he was from and has to send his sons to the house of a family relative to find out? That does not fit with the historical Israel culture all the rest of people (jews, arqueoligists, antropologists, historians) know. Any Israel child of that time before being old enough to learn to read knew their genealogy, their origins. The Book of Mormon is full of Joseph smith fantasy from the very beggining, (except from the passages he copied from Isaiah using a King James version Bible).
Better if you ask specific questions of what you have "researched", what you have found wrong or RONG?

I don't know much except that mormons seem to be immensely family oriented, which is a good thing in my world.
I would like to know more about the mystical teachings of this religion.

I used to babysit mormon children and I was always under the assumption that men can have many wives, you were not allowed to swear and no caffeine...and they always had a family night where they gathered and played games and such and no intrusions from the outside...they also went on missions to recruit other people...and that is all I really know...it is what I saw and grew up with.
