It depends on what tests were done, how the doctors office gets there results (computer, pick up paper copies, paper results mailed via inter office or postal system,etc..), and what the doctors office's policy on reporting results are. Some tests are done within hours, some get sent off to reference labs, and some may only be done on certain days of the week. Most offices only call a patient if a test result is abnormal and some send a letter saying everything is okay. Abnormal results you usually hear anywhere from 1 -3 days depending how abnormal. Letters saying everything is fine can take 8-12 weeks. Some offices do not send anything.

If you were sent to the lab at the hospital, to have your blood work, you can go and ask for a copy of the results, without waiting for the doctor's report. I always go and get copies of mine and my husband's test results and keep them in a file, so I can compare them, myself. If you don't know how to read blood test results there is a place on the web, that tells you exactly which part means and what the norms are. I don't wait to see the doctor, to get the results.
