An average contract is 4 years active service with 4 years inactive reserve. What that means is that he will be stationed with a victor unit for four years then exit active service. At that point he is inactive reserve, the government retains the ability to recall him to active service in a time of national crissis. Chances of that are slim.

Depends on the contract you work out with the Corp. You can pretty much work a deal on any amount of time, though if the MOS that he cooses is one that takes a lot of schooling on their part, don't think that they are going to give him one for only a few years. Case in point, a fighter pilot is Not going to have a two year enlistment!

It depends on what his individual contract says. My son's contract is for 5 years, his wife's is for 4 years, and I know others who have 2 year contracts.

The total obligation is for 8 years. :) but there are different ways to break that up between active, reserve, and IRR service.
As for how long he will be gone that will depend on MOS and other factors. ;) Boot is 13 weeks, minimum.

all contracts are for eight years. how much of that time is spent in training depends on the job field they choose. how much of that time is spent deployed depends on OPTEMPO.
