Maybe you should look at the employee handbook and your work's policies and procedures.

If you live in the US, then no you cannot be terminated for verifiable medical issues per the Family Medical Leave Act. You are eligible for up to two weeks of unpaid leave.

But the better answer is to negotiate leave with your employer. Demonstrate that you need the leave (letter from your doctor) and put together a plan for taking it. If you can get your boss to cooperate then even if she doesn't like it at least she's on board with the idea.

The way it works is you have to work the whole year then the following year which is year 2 you are entitled to 2 weeks holiday. Usually you have to take them before year 3 or you lose them. As long as you have a Dr's note you are entitled to a leave of absence. They can't terminate you. However if no union and they decide your more trouble then your worth they'll find someway to fire you when you come back. Hopefully your company is more compassionate then that.

Ask your job, it's the only way to be sure, you will probably have to back up your reasoning for wanting two weeks off though, so if it's due to health problems, get a doctors note saying that you need the two off. ... hope this helps

Do you have enough vacation time built up? Does your company have a short term disability plan for illness related absences?

Just check with HR and see. Usually no they can not. Sometimes your boss would request that you not take more than a certain # of days depending on what you do, but I have not seen this very often.

Are you planning to do this due to a birth? Many companies are adopting a leave for new Dads now.

You are eligible for FMLA (family Medical Leave Act) if you have worked 1250 within the year. You must have your doctor complete and sign a Medical Certification, which you can probably get from your human resources department. Once this form is completed, you must turn it in and it is up to your supervisor and your short term disability carrier to give you time off.

Wrong category, but....

You can request time off. Your employer may not approve the time requested, but you can ask. If you have vacation time earned, then you might even get paid for it. See if your work has a form for your to fill out to request time off.

If you need the time, no matter what, for health issues, get a doctors note or ask your doc for the best way to get this time of legally, without risking your job.

If its due to health problems then they shouldn't fire you. but just in case when you do ask to take 2 weeks off makesure that you boss, or whoever you ask, is in a really good mood. but don't like suck up to them or else they will just get annoyed with you and then you may not get the time off.

I doubt that. You say you've been there for OVER a year. They should not terminate you especially if it is for medicial reasons. Do you get sick time? Unless you want to keep your health issues private, I would let your employer know and you should have no problem. Good luck!

No they shouldnt. Legally there's an act called the Family Medical Leave Act and you can take time off according to that. Check your HR manual. Furthermore you may be able to take vacation or sick time and then go on short term disability... Good Luck!

You can ask for two weeks but you may not get paid depending on the arrangement of your company. I know I took two weeks off and the boss had no issues with it. However, I was only paid for one week.
