I believe butter is healthier. This type of food contains natural proteins that the body can recognize. The fatty acids found in butter are very healthy. However, butter also contains saturated fat... This type of fat (when ate in excessive amounts) can eventually lead to blocked arteries. (This is after years of eating it...

Margarine, however, is made up of processed hydrogenated vegetable oil. This oil is so unrecognizable to the body, that it has been shown harm the body (about) 20 times as much as saturated fat. This means the rapid build up of plaque and the higher risk of clogged arteries.

So, as a conclusion, I would say that butter is quite a bit better for you that margarine...

I've heard that margarine is structurally just one molecule different from plastic. Butter, on the other hand, is natural. Too much of anything is bad for you, so use either butter or margarine in moderation. However, some baked goods actually turn out better using margarine (because the type of fat is different from the type in butter). You decide. A little bit of margarine probably won't kill you. A little bit of butter probably won't kill you. A lot of margarine will likely harm you. A lot of butter will likely harm you. But, in the end, I fall back on the quote "I trust a cow more than I trust a chemist" (nothing against all you chemists out there--I just don't like my food to be 'created').

I have heard that a fly won't even land on a stick of margarine if left out on a counter. It's not real food, its a bunch of plastic mixed together to taste like butter, not sure why it was even invented.

It all depends on what you are using it for..
Most cookies you can use margarine
but for the christmas roll out cookies butter is better (it enhances the flavor more)
For lutefisk and Lefse that you put mashed potatoes in butter is way better
For popcorn butter is better than margarine.
For frying it really doesn't make a difference.
But it really depends on what it is being used for.

You'll hear both, but I believe it is butter. Pure, natural ingredients.
Margarine is pretty much chemicals.
Then there is the fat that butter has fewer ingredients. The fewer the ingredients, the less the body struggles to break it down & metabolize it.

I cook with butter because it has less water in it than margarine. On rolls and bread, I actually prefer Country Crock Churn Style.

Margerine is made in factories and processed. It's like fake butter. Butter is the REAL thing. It's made from cows that are treated with special food and watched diets. You will get a better taste from butter, so use it.
