It definitely depends upon the person.
Some people can pick up a textbook and then use it to learn about a subject by just reading the text and doing example problems.
But there are many people who cannot learn that way, and who need things explained to them verbally.
I can learn by reading, my sister cannot, and needs to have things explained to her varbally.

That could depend on the person. In general a visual symbol is better remembered. If you want to remember someones name when you meet them putting a visual with their name can help you remember it. For example if someone is named George, you can associate their name with a dollar (George Washington) When you see that person and try to remember their name you will see a dollar, then chuckle and say "Hi George, nice to see you again".

Visual, as the saying goes, every picture is worth 1,000 words ...I believe this...When I was teaching in North Africa, the diagrams I produced were much more easily understood by my Arab trainees than all the words you could get them to understand.
(A picture is easier to imprint into your memory than a load of text).
