...yet I'm not going to do it, because I have no desire to (ignoring Saw-like scenarios). I have the free will to stop eating, but I won't do that either, because I want to eat.

If god did not want us to sin, but wished us to keep our free will, why would he not simply make our nature different, such that we desired not to sin?

Please give a thumbs down to anyone who claims that changing our nature would violate free will.

God provides us with this life experience so we may grow spiritually. Sinning is part of the learning process. Without the ability to sin , we lose a useful tool to hone our character. We usually learn more from our failures, not our successes.

Adam and Eve were created by God and given the choice to obey Him or not. They chose to rebel against God and believe the devil instead---(see the account in Genesis).
That is when sin entered the world. Now, because we all come from Adam and Eve, we have inherited the nature of sin---all of us. We are born with hearts that are not wanting to live God's way. We sin because we are sinners. But God did not leave us that way----He made a great sacrifice when sending Jesus, God the Son, to give His life to pay the just punishment for our sins. God is merciful and He is also just.
His love made a way that we can again have a relationship with Him now that lasts for all eternity. He will cleanse us and give us new hearts that want to live for Him and He will give us the help and strength in our sin struggles while we live on this earth. I hope this answers what you are asking.

You don't have the free will to do those things..... in only appears that way. Adroit Elusion is what you should research, and you will find it is all over the place in the Scriptures. ALSO, don't you remember what the computer gigalo said to neo in the Matrix?? "CHOICE IS ONLY AN ELUSION".

Which pill did you take?? I may have said too much.

Believe it or not,,once you are saved,,you don't want to sin..your desire is to live pure,,and for the most part,,most of us make it....but if we mess up...we just go to the Father and confess our sin and he forgives us....he wants us to want to live right,,to recognize that we are sinners and need a Savior...we can't do it without him...we need his help to walk the straight and narrow. It isn't easy but he never promised us a trouble free journey,,it fact, he said, in this life we would have tribulation,,,but we are promised a soft landing.... : )
