Interesting point, and I think the article actually is a good argument against Divine Intelligent Design. If we can make a leaf that's more beneficial to us, why couldn't a Divine Designer?

EDIT: For the person above me:
1. Evolution doesn't purport to be able to explain those things. It also doesn't predict who will win next week's Patriots game, but is that a problem with the theory? Of course not. It's simply outside the scope of the theory.

2. Which "missing link"? Do you want a complete genealogy of every human? Every time a transitional fossil is found, creationists want the fossils that show the transition between that and each species. It seems the only thing they'll be happy with is a complete genealogy of the entire biological community.

3. That's just false. Plenty of mutations are beneficial. For example, a mutation could code for more antibodies, which helps the immune system and therefore promotes survival.

Scientists have not found the missing link.

Mutations cause degredation in species.
