I just purchased an LG Plasma TV and upgraded my Comcast Service to receive HD signals. The HD picture looks great, however, I've noticed about a half second delay between video and audio. In some ways it's kinda like the old Kung Fu movies where the voices are out of sync...

I have my TV outputs going into my receiver (std L&R audio - red and white connectors). When I called LG, they told me to purchase the optical cables and that should resolve my problem. I plan on getting the cables today, but I'm not certain that will fix the problem.
I just purchased a new receiver and the problem happens with both the old one and the new one, so I know my receiver isn't the problem... I'm really not sure if it's the TV or the service...

Do any of you experts have some suggestions for me?

It os rather strange - usually the delay is in the VIDEO - not AUDIO - because it takes longer to process video signal than audio signal.
LG is probably right - the DIGITAL connection should speed up the audio. The way you have it connected you process the sound twice - first in the TV and then in the RECIEVER.
You did not mention a CABLE BOX. In case you use CABLE BOX, you should connect it directly to the receiver - not to the TV and then RECEIVER

So you are currently hooked up like this:

CATV -> TV -> Receiver

And you are using L/R analog cables? You wont get DD5.1 sound that way.

LG Tech support is correct. You should run:

- Sound from CATV to receiver
- Video from CATV to TV

(See how this feeds the receiver directly without passing through the TV?)

To test this- remove the L/R cables from the TV and hook the L/R outputs from the cable box straight to the receiver. While this will solve the problem, L/R cables cannot carry DD5.1 sound. So you do want to use toslink/optical.

If you dont mind waiting a few days, Monoprice has some good optical cables for budget prices. Otherwise, get an ARPro optical cable from BestBuy or a Radio Shack one.
