There's one problem, the universe ain't infinite. Not according to Einstein, anyway.

"finite yet unbounded" are his exact words

The fact that the universe is expanding shows that it's not infinite. If it was already as big as it could get, then there would be no place to expand.

I don't believe in any god, but you are wrong that Einstein's Theory of General Relativity says the universe is not infinite. There are actually two big bang solutions in General Relativity one finite and one infinite. I have derived these solutions myself. Only one of these solutions is "finite but unbounded" the other is infinite.

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. "
Albert Einstein

Unlike others on here I have actually taken Graduate Physics courses including courses in General Relativity and Cosmology and worked at NASA on the Einstein Observatory project.

You sound much like the religous people you are criticizing, relying on an argument from authority, when you clearly do not understand what you are quoting from.

hey... you're trying to be sneaky.. yet sound smart (sort of) referring to Einstein like that.. "jeez, this guy must be smart" (so yer thinking we're all thinking!)

sneaky how? well, you say... "Infinite Universe" -but no one said anything about an INFINITE universe...

We all know, there is a scientific law that states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, it simply changes form (conservation of energy). To be more precise, it states that in a closed system such as our universe energy is conserved. In other words, all the energy that ever existed, that was present at the beginning, still exists. God, who is all energy, in the beginning took from his own energy to make everything that exists.

I believe that the Universe is "god" and that everything inside it is an extension of that being. And there is no proof that it is or isn't infinite. But if you really look into it, you'll see that it's so damn huge that it may as well be infinite, cause we could never, ever even dream about viewing the "end," let alone go there.

There's no need to be a know-it-all when it comes to the mystery that is the Universe, because no one really knows anything about it.

On the contrary, I believe that some puny matter self-replicating arrangements created gods...

So Einstein played in a thunderstorm?????? What was Benjamin Franklin doing in the meantime? Videotaping Einstein?

Well, wait a minute. The Universe out to our event horizon is finite, but we know that there is material (an absolutely mind-boggling lot of it) beyond the event horizon. That space may or may not be finite in extent.

I think it improbable that there is even a god/supreme being/creator but many of Einstein's theories are now considered wrong.

Who could know for certain that the universe is finite or not?

The universe isn't infinite. After death you go to heaven or hell, and that IS infinite, but our lifetime on this earth is not. And to the guy above me who says, "Einstein played in a thunder storm with a key tied to a string." That wasn't Einstein =] (laughs)

Einstein stated that our universe is infinite but bounded.

Modern string theory predicts that there is more than one universe.

Please bare in mind, at one time Einstein thought the univers had always exsisted The same size, shape and makeup. Hubble proved him wrong. Just cause you are smart, does not mean you cant be wrong.

And how would Einstein know. You are putting alot of stock in a man who, while very intelligent, had limited resources at his disposal to make such remarks. I'm of the opinion that he has since changed his mind.
