when people tell you to do your bit for the environment by not buying certain things but you just think it doesnt really make much of a difference because they'll still make it it's not always us that can help with this sorta stuff its the big companies you need to go to?
Well this could be completely wrong but like saying "dont drink bottled water the plastic is a waste and you can get it for free in your tap" you think well they're still gunna make them and these ones are already made so yeah....
i might be pretty stupid or something but thats just been something on my mind. =s

Yea - it's just too bad you can't force others to give up their bottled water and force big corporations from selling this stuff. After all we need to do this to protect Mother Earth from those big bad Conservatives.

It would make a difference if EVERYONE stopped buying these products that hurt our environment, but that's not going to happen anytime soon. Just because you don't buy that bottled water doesn't mean that a million other people won't buy it and then toss the plastic in the trash instead of recycling it.

Sorry but I think you have got it wrong.

Manufacturers do not make stuff for the fun of it. If the stuff stays on the shelf because you fail to buy it they will not get so many repeat orders and will slow production. That will help reduce pollution and waste. It will also demonstrate to the Government that people believe in protecting the environment and will vote for better policies.

I am glad you asked and hope you will not mind me explaining things in this way.

Best wishes

Your part does count, and you can see that when you begin to look at the aggregate amounts of pollution you create over the period of a year, or your lifetime. The average American produces somewhere between 10 and 20 tons of co2 per year (depending on your source), both directly (electricity and driving) and indirectly (using manufactured products), and throws away around 1600 lbs per year (again, this number varies depending on your source). By just adjusting your habits slightly, you can easily cut these numbers in half. You may not stop everybody else from being wasteful, but at least you can say you did your part, right?

"If all your friends jumped off a cliff would you jump off a cliff?"

Didn't your parents ever say that to you? That is the lamest, and most common, EXCUSE for sitting on your hands. "No one else is doing anything to protect the environment so I'm not going to either." Don't try to justify your inaction by citing the inaction of others.

Be a leader, not a follower.
