I decided to fight a speeding ticket I received. I've been free from any tickets in the past 15-18 months and normally drive the speed limit and I honestly made a mistake this time. I have an informal hearing with the magistrate at the local police department. What can I expect when talking with her and should I wear a skirt?

I would dress professionally. I believe the informal hearing will be both of you considering what evidence that the officers have and if they have a case good case against you. You will also at this time plead your case and bring your points up as well. What probably will happen is both sides will "plea" a deal. Usually it is some part of the usual fine minus any points on your license. This keeps both parties out of the court room and doesn't tie the system up. If the cops didn't have a radar gun or tracking device you can easily beat the whole rap in court too, remember that. If the cops claim they were pacing you then it is your word against theirs and you can get off also especially with no past speeding or reckless driving history.

Admitting that you made a mistake, will not reduce the fine. You will also be paying court costs for the privlege of giving this information. If you cannot prove you were not speeding, pay the ticket and save a little money. Ticket fines are pretty much standard amounts and they won't care about how well you drove for the past 15 to 18 months. If you go ahead, wear nice clothes.

I tell people who are going to court to wear clothing attire appropriate for church. This way there is no misunderstanding at how you should look to impress the court.

It sounds to me like you may be from the UK and as such I'm not familiar with informal hearings before a magistrate. I can imagine they may discuss opportunities to attend traffic school or potential point assessments or suspensions.

Best wishes.
