My current insurance is with state farm; just a question; if i got hit by someone without car insurance and is their fault; they dont have any money to pay for my damage; since i dont have the uninsure motor coverage but i have collision with deductible of 500 dollar; would my collision cover me after i pay the 500 dollar? i guess my real question is what is the point of having uninsure motor coverage when i have collision coverage? would i need both? or just collision would be sufficient?

It is strongly recommended from most places that you get uninsured coverage. Here is a good resource...

Uninsured Motorist Protection covers your BODILY INJURY. Your health insurance through work is all fine and good, but what if you are killed or permanently disabled? Your car would get fixed under the collision, but there would be no coverage for your injuries and pain and suffering. Say you are seriously injured or permanently disabled, you will lose or have to quit your job and there go those benefits. What will you do if that happens? I personally believe that the uninsured (and underinsured if offered in your state) motorist protection should be mandatory - until of course, they find a foolproof way to catch people with no insurance.

Usually the uninsured motorist coverage for your vehicle will have a lower or zero dollar deductible. That is what the point of having it is for.
Some states however, do not offer uninsured coverage if you already carry collision coverage.

If you file it under your collision deductible, your rates will increase, and you will have to pay $500.00. That accident will count against you for the next three years. Your insurance will be higher for the next three years. With uninsured motorist coverage you deductible will automatically lower to $250, and it is considered a fault free accident, which will not cause your rates to increase.

If you have to use the collision coverage your rates will usually increase. With Uninsured or underinsured coverage it's assumed the fault was the other driver. Your rates wouldn't climb.

You need both. What if you have an injury? Will your collision cover that?
