A huge misconception people have when the file a report is that the problem will go away.

Once you file a complaint with the Police...YOU still need to file for a warrant of arrest against the person calling you. This is a misdemeanor offense and unless it happens in the presense of the officer, he can only file the report but not sign a warrant....that comes from you! The police will inform you of the proper way to do this when you contact them.

Another means of handling your problem is by "call blocking" the phone number from the source of the call. Your phone directory should have instructions on how that's done.

The information you will need when filing the report is essentially who, what, when, where, how, and why!

What happened is you received the calls, how many times, from the number listed on your caller ID. Your caller ID should list the dates and times of the calls. You need to remember a basic gist of what was said during the calls. Were they hang up calls or somebody said something.

Calling the telephone provider is also an option. They may offer to change your number for you at no charge!

Hope this helps!

Call the non emergency number to the police department. It can be found in your phone book. If the person is threatening to come over and harm you right now, call 911.

Information you will want to provide is the time and frequency of the calls, the number they are calling from, blocked, private, etc.

If you know who the other person is then that information should also be provided. Also tell the officer what the caller is doing. Is the caller making threats, breathing heavy into the phone, just saying nothing, etc.

From this point on, get a sheet of paper. Write down the time of the calls, the number it comes from if not blocked, if its blocked write down blocked, and what the call is about. Do not erase any voice messages either. The turn all this over to the investigating office.

Do not call the number back. It gets difficult to tell them to stop calling you when the phone records show your calling them too.

Call the police department not 911...They will take a report from you. Then they will call the person if the number is not blocked or you have the number.
I had someone threaten me on my voicemail (idiot). I had my b/f listen to the message and he told me to call the police dept. in the city I was in at the time the message was left. Not the city where I live or the city of the caller. I then had to drive to the PD and write a statement.

Record the message they leave, show the police your caller ID with multiple messages left. Tell the police you have asked the caller to leave you alone dozens of times. Express a fear for your life. The caller will get a $75 fine for phone harassment.

It's not much, but it does keep their behavior in check in case an exparte (restraining order) is needed in the future. Good luck

Yes you can call the police about this. With the way law enforcement is now, i'm not sure if they'll do anything about it. Just be safe and call
