The person and camera are in another state, and he wants to send a bunch (over 200) pictures from his digital camera to me, but doesn't know how. Is there a program for him to use to zip them so they don't take so long? Neither of us are good with computers

Use WinZip. It is already a part of Windows.

Right click on the desktop,
Click NEW - Click Compressed Folder.
Give this folder a name like photos.zip
The extension .zip is important for Windows to be able to open it later.

Download the pictures and drop them into the folder.

Now, keep in mind that though this is a compressed folder, it will still be a fairly large file. It might be easier for him to upload the pictures to an album in Photobucker or similar website and then just send you the link.

Setup an IPSEC VPN over the internet and rsync them.
