i worked at Unity High School in Khartoum for awhile this year and i met Gillian. she's a lovely, well mannered, respectable woman who wouldnt hurt a fly. i believe it was a naive, simple mistake; with no ill intention whatsover, that was blown out of proportion. my thoughts and prayers and with Gillian and her family back home.

and no, i reckon she doesnt need/deserve any lashing whatsoever. a fine or a warning at most.

Does anyone ever "need" a lashing?

I'm going to say no.

However, in a country where they have laws with lashing as punishment, maybe she did "need" the lashings.

I bet she never ever ever even comes close to blasphemy again in Sudan. She will definately "learn" to respect the country she is in.

In Sudan a seven year old girl can legally be sold into marriage, then if she is raped she can be legally stoned to death for adultry because of the rape. Any justification of this because of one's religious belief I find repulsive.

This is another example of what the Religion of Perpetual Outrage is all about.

Someone tries to appease the mob, and they act like ingrates. Just another example of "no good deed goes unpunished."

No. This is a very good example why morality should not be enforced through civil law, and neither should religious practices or beliefs.

It's a religion of peace!!!!!

In Islam, blasphemy is actually insulting Mohammed. You can say anything about Allah and be fine. Insult Mohammed and it is your head. So who do they worship?

when you're dealing with a legal sysem that believes that a suitable punishment for a girl's rape is to have a member of her family rape a female of her rapist's family, nothing surprises you.

It shows you what a weak-minded religion Islam really is doesn't it! They are all as mad as snakes and this proves it.
