From what I have read recently teachers have too many #1 teacher things, world's best teacher things, etc. Get her a gift card to a local coffee shop (Dunkin Donuts, Tim Horton's, whatever).

I remember when I was younger and it came to giving gifts to teachers, the best way to go is to figure out what the teacher likes. I mean my 3rd grade teacher went to my dad's church so they always talked alot. And she would always come into class wearing like cows and roosters and farm like stuff. So I told my mom she liked stuff like that and we found her either a corn or tomato shaped tea pot or some cow salt and pepper shakers. Can't really remember but I know that my teacher wrote me a special note, thanking me and my mom for her gift. So best advice, go with what the teacher likes, but find a unique version of it. I'm sure the teacher would really love that better than the traditional your a great teacher card.
P.S. This idea works for significant others and family members too. Because when you remember what someone likes and find a really special and unique version of it, they will cherish that gift for a very long time, instead of some gift that shows no thought or consideration.

As a kindergarten teacher I can tell you that I spend lots of my own money on ressources for the classroom so what would make me happiest is a gift certificate to a bookstore or to scholar's choice so that I can get extras for the class.
Most teachers don't need big presents. We just like knowing that we're appreciated. A big card made by your son that says :"Thank you Mrs. ___. I love you!" would be perfect!

Something consumable is the best gift for our teachers. They receive SO many "teacher" inspired gifts through the years and a round of fresh baked cookies or other sweets is most appreciated. Another idea is a gift card to a local restaurant.

Many teachers have wish lists for the class-room and/or limited supply budgets. Check with the office to see if they know of any.
A gift certificate for an office supply and/or copy place if they are supplying things out of their own funds is nice. Or books/toys for the entire classroom to enjoy.

Last year we found out that my sons teacher was traveling out of state to see family. I made his family a big batch of travel snacks; cookie bars, brownies, and different munchies. I put it all in a small carry on bag and added a 25$ gas card.
Just use your imagination!

A small gift certificate for something like a coffee place.
Teachers get a lot of mugs, candles, etc. every year...they get pretty tired of them.
