These types of medication should never be stopped cold turkey. You need to be gradually taken off. The reason is that they have severe withdrawals symptoms which actually intensify your original feelings of depression. Start taking your medication again and call your doctor.

Just because you are feeling much better does not mean you should on your own decide to stop taking Prozac.
This is not your decision to make by yourself. You and your doctor are a team working together to help you feel better. If you were feeling better, that is GREAT!
Now you may be experiencing the affects of stopping Prozac too quickly. You may also still need to take it even though you thought you felt better. Talk to your doctor.

I am a psychiatric nurse of 19 years and I am familiar with all the medications that you are on. The Effexor XR is an anti depressant, the Xanax is for anxiety and can be habit forming, The Trazadone is being used as a sleep agent along with the Ambien. They are all pretty easy to come off of them slowly by taking less and less for about a week. The Xanax if you take for along time and take more than prescribed can cause death when stopping it. Your on a low dosage if your taking a .25mg or .5 mg tables up to 3x per day. So stick with that and you will be just fine. Less than a week to come off of the medications. Talk about the death of your child as much as you can to find peace with it. Read about self comdemnation you can find it on the www. God Bless.

I believe it happens because your medication is working!!
The medicine helps you maintain more emotional balance so that you do not experience the symptoms of depression anymore.
Then, when you feel better, you forget that "it is WITH THE HELP OF YOUR MEDS, that you feel better". You think you can control the dpression on your own, and quit your meds, without a doctor monitoring you. Thus, the cycle begins...again.
I have learned to trust my doctors more. I let them know when my depression gets better or worse. I have lowered my doses, quit meds, re-started meds, changed meds... ALL with the help of qualified DOCTORS. They know that I would prefer not to take "medicine" and are compassionate to my needs. Find a good psychiatrist to monitor your medicines and a good therapist to help you learn skills to help yourself.
Good Luck

No matter what do NOT stop taking your anti-deppression medication without your doctors approval. I am no expert but I do take some of the medications myself and have been told the importance of taking them everday. I do know that your brain gets withdrawls from something in them if you stop taking it and it can be very dangerous. If you would like to get off your meds talk to your doctor about slowly lowering the dose and getting off that way....by suddenly stopping like you did it only makes it worse. Hang it there!

You cannot stop your medication on your own! It is very dangerous and it can have very harmful side effects. Please talk to your Doctor!
The only way that I was able to get off of Medication (I was taking anti-psychotics by the way) and be Healed was by being saved by the grace of God! I am so serious. It wasn't that I got into a religion, I got a relationship with God and I believed with my whole heart that He is my Healer.
I used to be atheist and a little bit of a Devil worshiper but one day I felt it in my Spirit to pray and to test God to see if he was real. I was blown away because my prayer was answered! And my road to recovery started there :)
Now I am so not trying to shove religion down your throat, but I am letting you know how I was freed from my demons.
Feel free to e-mail me for the whole story and I wish you Happiness and Joy, Strength, Honor and Courage, Bravery and Boldness. You have the potential to be a warrior, stand proud because you are always precious in the eyes of God. Have a Great Day! -Victoria

It takes awhile to get out of your system and then takes a while to get back into your system.
You are having depression symptons because you have depression and are not following the medical plan for the diseases' management.
Please take your meds.
It's like a diabetic not taking her insulin.
You need the meds so take them. Everybody has something dear! This happens to be your burden. But it is managable it sounds like ...when you take your meds.
Good luck honey!

You can't stop prozac cold turkey, one of the side effects is what you experienced. Consult with your doctor first, and if the doc believes you're ready, you'll be given a program to slowly ween you off prozac.

Chronic depression is not a bacteria or virus that you can kill, but rather a chemical inbalance.
The chances are excellent that you'll need to tak e some form of anti-depressive for the rest of your life (though pregnancy or menopause might change things considerably).
