They recover in about 7-10 days and the sutures come out about that time. Once the sutures are out, you can give a bath, but I'd use a little antibiotic ointment on the scar post-bath for a few weeks even after that. In terms of behavior, my dog was pretty much back to his normal self in 2-3 days.

Our shelters have been doing 400-600 spays and neuters a years for 25 years. We've had no deaths and only a few complications. For neuters, they are usually not intubated unless it is a very small or large dog, a breed sensitive to anesthetic, or a short-nosed breed. Usually they are given a short-acting anesthetic since the surgery only takes about 15 minutes or so.

Since he's male it won't take long at all. He will probably be groggy for a while when you pick him up, unless he stays overnight at the vets' and the anesthesia has had time to wear off. You'll want to keep him calm and from jumping around for a week or two, but after the first day or two, he'll be back to his old self.
You can bathe him when the stitches come out-usually about 7-10 days after surgery. But check with your vet first just in case.
As with all surgery in which an animal will be put under anestetic, there is a small risk of death or complications. However, with neutering being such a widely practiced and simple operation, the chances of such a thing are very very slim. The benefits to neutering your dog highly outweight the risks. So take your dog in to be neutered, and make sure you stay calm! I also provided a few links for you with some info down below.

I am sure he is still sore, and probably still being affected by the medication he was given during the operation. It sometimes takes a day or so for it to wear off and get completely out of his system. Keep a close watch on him, and if you have any questions, call the vet. You did the right thing in having him neutered.

My dog only took a couple of days to recover. He had it about a month ago and now he is jumping and playing around like nothing ever happened. It shouldn't take longer than a week or so if it does then he needs to go back to the vet.

I had my labador neutered at the age of 5 years and he was fine the next day. I brought him to the vet early in the morning and then picked him up after work. He laid on his pillow that evening and the next morning, he was just fine; all back to normal. Although he did look sad; like he was worried I would have something else cut off! ha!

If there is no problems probably a week or two.
Dogs are good healers but let him rest for at least 5 days before you expect him to feel himself.
They feel pain too!
PS: ask your vet after the procedure how it should go as he knows if he had any problems and your dogs breed.

Well, if he's anything like my Aussie, about 2 minutes. Upon arriving home, he ran up 2 flights of stairs (Tri-Level house) and crazily greeted my husband like nothing ever happened. He NEVER acted any different than before (And didn't lick at the wound at all, so didn't need an e-Collar).

So much for keeping him quiet for 7-10 days...

About a week or two. Also they will be really tired. You also have to watch then all the time to make sure they don't lick/bite at there stitches, they could get infected, or pull the stitches out. He will probably be a cone head for 7-10 days, they give him a cone to put around his neck so he can't reach it to lick it. hope i helped. vote best=]
