My husband's stationed at Fort Bragg and I'd like to take my daughter to live in Wisconsin while he's deployed to have help from family and friends while he's gone. Would our BAH remain the same as it is now, or does it change if we move up there?

You will get the BAH rate of the area where your husband is stationed (Fort Bragg) regardless of where you and your daughter live. The military changed their policy several years to pay the rate of where the member is stationed rather than pay the higher rate if the family lived in a different geographical area to help eliminate fraud.

Since your husband has already established residency at Ft. Bragg, then his BAH entitlement will remain at Ft. Bragg for the duration of his tour. The only time dependent location comes into play is if he couldn't (due to military orders or deployment) move you to his current post from a previous duty station.

The BAH rate will remain the same as what is on your husband's orders. If his orders say Ft. Bragg, then that's what the BAH rate will stay. As long as his orders hasn't changed and his LES reflects the zip code of Ft. Bragg and he hasn't contacted his command for any special changes, then it won't be change and you will not be able to change it.

Is the BAH rate higher for Wisconsin than what it is for Ft. Bragg? Check the rates, you may not be doing yourself any justice by trying to get it changed, the BAH rate changes by zip code, so if the cost of living is lower where you're from than it is at Ft. Bragg, your BAH will lower to that area.

BAH is based on geographic duty location, pay grade, and dependency status. The intent of BAH is to provide uniformed service members with permanent duty within the 50 United States accurate and equitable housing compensation based on housing costs in local civilian housing markets, and is payable when government quarters are not provided. A uniformed service member stationed overseas, including U.S. protectorates, who is not furnished government housing, is eligible for Overseas Housing Allowance (OHA).

your husband's duty station if bragg...you can't get the bah rate changed unless your husband has orders stating he is being stationed in wisconsin...if you live in housing you would have to give up your housing unit in order to receive the bah...good luck

If you live on post...then you will have to pay a move out fee before you can leave and you will need to move out of housing completely. (i know for GMH we are only allowed to have our house unoccupied for a certain amount of time). Then you coudl change your BAH to where you want to live in wisconsin. Otherwise you will just keep your house on base and they will still take your BAH away...

good luck!

BAH remains at the duty station rate if the family chooses to move somewhere not under PCS orders.

It would not change unless you let his command know and do the paperwork stating that you will be living somewhere else.
If you do not make the changes and the government finds out, that's fraud.

If you just go on "vacation" until he returns, no need to tell them anything.
