Why does this bother you so much? To get all hot under the collar because you are having to learn something in school makes you sound like a very narrow-minded person indeed. If you are Indian, then you are Indian whatever language you happen to speak. Whatever language you communicate in.....it doesn't change who you actually are and being proud of being Indian is wonderful. If you are living in a society that happens to speak English, then it's a good idea to learn to speak English too because without that knowledge life will be difficult for you. If, however, you live in a society which speaks Hindi, then being able to speak a different language (or even 2 or 3 different languages) is a feather in your cap. School is there to broaden your mind and your experience. Learn everything you can whether it is languages or mathematics or science. What you learn and what you know do not change your being who you are, they just enhance your abilities and character.

We need it! Infact, not only in Hindi but also in all the regional languages there must be teaching atleast upto primary level. Give the child a chance to begin learning in mother tongue. Mother is the first guru of any child and the knowledge gained in Mother tongue will remain firm like a solid base, whatever be the future development. I don't think the intellectuals of today have learnt in English right from their childhood!

ARE YOU PROUD OF YOUR INDIAN HERITAGE!
That sould give you your answer! I will give you an example.

I went to Canada when I was only abou12, couldn't speek a word of English. My Mom and dad, who had settled before they called me, would speak nothing but English to me. I use to watch english shows and within a year I picked it up English from schools, shows and my parents..

Now my mom and dad all of sudden stopped speaking English to me to me, and would always repeat anything I said in English into Hindi, and they said they wouldn't understand a word I said unless I spoke to them in Hindi

I said why did you do that? They asked me the same question I asked you,. If you are proud you will encourage Hindi, (English is a very easy language to pick up), and other major languages to perserve your heritage, that is much mcuh older then the English. I understand the need to communicate in day to day in English, but at home at least for a little , you can be who you are, HINDU
