I dropped my (New) Nikon D40x and now the flash does not work. It does pop up but does not work! Unfortunately, the camera was not insured!

since you dropped it, there isn't a lot that can be done via warranty.

I'd take it to an authorized Nikon repair center and let them have a look. If the bill is too expensive, sell it "as is" on ebay to try and get at least some of the money towards a new one. Just be honest that it was dropped, but since its so new, it may be worth it for parts.

Now you know why they make neck straps for cameras.

In 36 + years of I have yet to drop a camera. Its always hanging securely around my neck or in my camera bag or on a tripod.

I second the suggestion to sell it on ebay as a "parts camera" if repairs are too expensive.

Why do you post with the question: "Get real answers from millions of real people.?"

I had no idea what the question was about going in and now you wasted both our times...
