Its obvious the bad press' Christians get from the Gays on this site, and probably a high proportion on here are gays
forgive me if I am wrong' in that assumption
But speaking as a catholic, I have no feelings on that matter,
you are entitled to live your own life' on how you wish to live
and that goes with out saying' most of my catholic friends agree with me
So please dont tar us with the same brush,
Remember we dont all agree with every thing said in the good book,
Like you' we all have individual free thinking thoughts
I know that God loves' all of his children

The bible (written by man - and books inside it chosen by man) in several passages gives the impression against homosexuality, but really it only refers to specific people i.e the sodomites (i think thats what they were called - that group of thugs that went to some house and raped some guys) and obviously that is bad. However religion has based that one incident as a basis to hate all gay people because of this, and that is not right. Depending how you interpret the verses in the bible, will decide what you believe it actually means. If God was really against homosexuality, there would have been a clear cut statement produced i.e in ten commandments. There is not one valid or clear statement in the bible which is against homosexuality, yet religion (of which many people whether religious or not) highly influences moral standing on what is right and wrong. It is religions stance that is causing so much misunderstanding and hate, so as you say, not all are against gays, yet the religion they support says otherwise.
You appear to be one of the good guys, keep up the work to get things changed.

This is Yahoo Answers!

Many people love to make sweeping generalities here - it gets people inflamed and frequently that is their goal (attention).

I would no more paint all of the religious with the sins of the few than I would paint all of the (put in your favorite race) for the sins of the few.

In the US, a small majority of people seem to be against homosexuals getting married - and like every other major issue has become a favorite polarizing topic for candidates.

"The Church" in this debate, turns out to be many individual parishes at least represented by a small number of church leaders. The rest of the congregation is frequently ignored.

MOST Catholics use some sort of birth control other than abstinence - yet the official dictum called that a sin.

Society is complex. Attempts at simplifying it by labeling people are usually silly at best and lethal at worst.

You mean gay people have to love being told that they go to hell? While you personally may not say this Christianity as a whole most definitely does say so.
If you belong to an association which holds up certain tenets you should not be surprised if people assume you hold the some ones. Or are you fighting to change this about christianity?

im sorry my friend 0- but the book that you get ALL of youre morals and laws from says its a sin - and so does youre boss (the pope) - you cant pick and choose bits from the bible that suit you - or theres no point in being a christian at all

its all or nothing.

if i pick and choose what laws my country has decided on, that makes me a criminal

gays and lesbians are angry at those who dont treat them like human beings simply looking for the same rights as anyone else....

yes some of these people ( in fact a lot of these people ) are Christian
but not all
you are generalising about not generalising ....
although I agree with your sentiments

Some gays and lesbians have understandable problems with christianity. The christian book (bible) looks down on gays and calls their lifestyle a "sin." I'm not gay...but if I were I don't think I'd be thrilled with the churches stance on this issue. Individuals vary...but the church is clear on this. And I say...shame on them.

Because many Christians have condemned them, supposing that homosexuality is both voluntary and sinful. The evidence is that it is not voluntary, rendering the question of sinfulness moot.

Look, there are plenty of christians here that adress awfull words to gay people, so if they are upset, they have a good reason to be. I know not everyone judges the same, but when a majority does, it is natural to be deffensive

bigoted Fundy Christians have been loudly oppressing gay folks for decades in the USA, using their Bibles as weapons and as justification for violence so who can blame gay folks for getting angry Christianity in general. and it's not like moderate Christianity has stood up as a collective to mitigate the cruelty done to gay folks by their Fundy brethren.

the anger of gay folks is justified IMO.
