for maximum muscle growth all 3 of the macronutrient groups are important.
proteins are used to repair skeletal muscle and for growth of new muscle tissue
carbohydrates are used to fuel the body during high intensity exercise and to keep insulin levels stable during the day. insulin is the most anabolic hormone that the human body produces. insulin levels must be kept low and stable over the course of the day so the body can remain in an anabolic state. this is why low GI high fiber carbs are optimum
fats are used in the production of the sex hormones. a low fat diet results in low test production. low test means a low level of circulating androgens in the body. it's physiologically impossible to have a high amount of muscle mass with low levels of circulating androgens. this is also why women can not get big muscles unless they supplement with testosterone or other anabolic steroids.
shoot for 30% protein, 50% low GI high fiber carbs and 20% fats when bulking if your body fat is average or below. if you have a high amount of body fat you should use 40% protein, 40% carbs and 20% fats.

Anything with protein! If you're aiming to get bigger muscles, you can try protein drinks, or just eat a lot of chicken. Just make sure you don't get a lot, because a lot of anything is bad for the body.
