David S: Nice ham job on aping early 20th century psychoanalysis, I love it when religious types incorporate an outdated scientific approach into their thinking. Religious belief is delusion it cannot be anything else to a reasoning and rational person, I think the anger is yours.

a believer believes that he is better than non-believers.

for most believers the only basis they have for such a belief is the strength of their faith.

An interestingly worded question. It's a bit like, "Have you stopped beating your wife?"

If you answer yes, it implies you were beating her. If you answer no, it implies you are currently beating her.

Your incorporation of the word "delusion" into your question shows anger....maybe even hatred.

Why?

If you do not believe in God, why be concerned about those who do? Do you really want to know the benefits of religious belief? What question are you really asking? What is it that you really want to know?

Atheists who spend an inordinate amount of time arguing against God have a God obsession. Deep down, if you really didn't believe there was a God, would you care so much about your question?

It is not a delusion. But the rewards are here and now:
1. No worry about STD's
2. No hangovers
3. No DUI charges
4. Meaning in life.
5. Clean lifestyle usually means better health
6. Helping others

And heaven in the end.

The biggest "payoff" for Christians is the knowledge that when we die we will be with the Lord Jesus Christ for eternity in Heaven. I much prefer that "payoff" than the one you have obviously chosen, an eternity without God. An eternity in Hell. It does not make me happy to think about someone going to hell, it is a terrible thing to die lost, without God. However, it is your choice and there is little a Christian can do to help you see the truth. Rather than doubting the existence of God, question your belief and faith about His existence. In Hebrews 11:1 we read, " Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. " This is true faith and a demonstration of the faithfulness of God and also their trust in Him. You might be sincere in your lack of belief, but you are SINCERELY WRONG!!!

I take issue with this. I am a born again Christian and I do not believe that I am better than others. The only difference between me and any non-believer is that I have accepted Christ as my savior and know that my sins have been forgiven. That is the only difference. Eternity with Christ is my reward

Heaven!

1 John 5:20 (King James Version)

20And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Basically it just makes them feel good.
Church folks also like the knowledge that all who disagree with them will burn and rot, writhing and screaming in agony, in hell throughout eternity.

Eternal life for Christians, eternal damnation for everyone else (including you it sounds like).

Repent and believe in Christ alone for your sins before a holy God.
