It's very simple, you must believe the bible is true because god wrote it and he wouldn't lie. How do they know he wrote it? because it says so in the bible. How do they know he wouldn't lie? Because it says so in the bible.
You see, you have to believe in the bible because the bible says so. I always get a kick out of that nonsense.

There is a relationship between the believer, the Bible, and God. The words in the Bible are obvious, anyone who has a reading ability can read it, but what does it mean? The relationship of the believer isn't only about trusting what the Bible says ( as I have said ) , but also between the believer and God. Jesus promised that relationship in John 15 and 16. It's through the Holy Spirit that a believer gains understanding, both understanding and in what to value, how to interpret it.
That is what is ailing you I think. You can look through the whole Bible and see it as though it is written is an language which could be called 'idiot' because it doesn't seem to be making any kind of valuable sense. Like a 'fairytale' and probably not a very good one.
I am going to go out on a limb, and apply a few verses which have exactly the context of what I am talking about, let's see if you can understand that it is just what I am saying it is, okay?
Here it is:
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."
( 1 Corinthians 1:18 - 19 )
To me, this verse nails it on the head. It tells me why the Bible makes NO sense to many people. It also tells me why I see it as sonmething, because I am not perishing. But for those who are perishing, they are saying just what these verses are saying, " What a bunch of nonsense" they say. It is spelled out exactly here, but people don't tend to look at it that way. They tend to think, " Oh, we are name-calling now!" And they miss the importance of the revelation; God gives some to understand, and makes many others not to understand.
That theme is throughout the Bible. After the sin of Adam and Eve the way God related to humans changed. He gave some over to unbelief, and used others to belief. Those that believe tend to say great things about God, and those who do not believe tend to say evil things about God. And all of that falls right into the knowledge and the way God reacts to people in general.
Many are called, but few are chosen.

It is faith, but that's not the only reason we believe the Bible.
There is evidence that what Bible said is true. Like when people thought the earth was flat, and after the voyage found out that it was round. But the Bible was correct all along! More than 2,000 years before those voyages, the Bible said at Isaiah 40:22: "There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth."
Time and time again prophecies given even hundreds of years in advance have been fulfilled in exact detail!
another example is that Bible foretold the overthrow of mighty Babylon nearly 200 years before it happened.
It also says in 2 Timothy 3:1-5
1But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
3without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,
4treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—
5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
Surely, we are seeing the fulfillment of this now!
There are too much evidence to write here, but
by examining it further, you will see that all throughout the Bible the prophecies were fulfilled.
So we not only believe the Bible because it says so, but because what it said is true and could be proven

It's faith in a PERSON, not a book. The Bible is lots of things, a 'handbook' if you like. You may accept or reject Christianity. If you accept it, or want to know more about it, the Bible will give you a lot of information.
The Bible doesn't argue the case for God: it assumes God exists and explores the consequences. It uses the phrase 'the Word of God' about itself: how you interpret that is up to you. Some take it to mean that every word was directly 'dictated' by God. Others see it as a reliable guide to issues of Life and Death.
The real issue is not the book, but the person.

If you really want an answer to your question, do some research. I suggest starting with "Reasonable Faith: Christian Truth and Apologetics" by William Lane Craig, and then "Is the New Testament Reliable? A Look at the Historical Evidence." by Paul Barnett.
There is evidence, even if you personally have never discovered it.
If you don't really want an answer, try another forum.

although faith may be the main reason many people believe in the Bible, that's not to say that there is no evidence to support it. The Bible is historically accurate, in fact many archealologists use it help them find ancient civilizations and other such things. Also many of the prophesies in the Bible have been fufilled, even though most were made hundreds of years before they were fufilled.

Let he who has ears LISTEN. You're too busy trying to find fault and place your trust in a petri dish. Without tangible proof you are willing to fly away into Nihilism.
1st: G-d in many forms has been 'seen' by men throughout history. Our current understanding of G-d includes the historical fact that Jesus of Nazareth was born, lived, was crucified, buried and rose from the dead. His life is not well documented, but he is mentioned in Roman texts of the period, not to mention the Koran later on.
2nd: We are asked as Christians to accept the whole truth of the Bible, especially the gospels. This is not to say we believe Noah built an ark singlehandedly and corralled 1,000s of animals into and saved mankind (and Darwin - what would have said if he had to witness creation all over again?), yet we believe G-d commanded men to listen, and at at times they did not, and those who were prepared for disaster survived; those who were 24-hour party people did not survive.
Jesus asked us to love one another. If we don't have proof should I not love? I prefer faith to disbelief, optimism to cynicism.

There is an amazing amount of evidence to proving the Bible to be accurate. Do some google searches. But I must admit a lot of what a Christian believes is based on faith. A faith that the Father Himself placed inside them. Praise be to God.

Faith and evidence is a completely different thing. I believe the bible is true because evidence helps support it. Faith to a Christian is trusting in God during the bad and good times. I don't need to have faith to believe the bible is right. If you want to hear some good evidence that proves the bible is true I suggest you to go to drdino.com and click on downloads or go to answersingenesis.org. I hope my answer was of help.

The Bible is about human nature.
Some persons believe that some of the many principles given in the Bible are more useful than most self-help books.
