I knew a lady down the street from us that her husband...everyone knew he was beating the crap out of her and the church said. basically.."You have to stay...blah, blah, blah"...and she eventually died from a blow to her head...and he was NOT prosecuted because he just said she died from a fall...what a jerk of a man!! the whole neighborhood was shocked that he was not prosecuted...because we could see the bruises on her..but the church would NOT let her leave.!!!!

yes the church has changed positions on MANY things.....

marriage

gays and the church

birth control

WHAT has the church not changed its beliefs on?

marriage

gays and the church

birth control.....

the Catholic Church as a whole is ordained by the Pope, each Pope although the high preist of the church has had some varying views....

mainly the Catholic church is more accepting of outsiders than they once were....

they are also more accepting of the concept of family planning and divorce....although they don't condone divorce for just the sake of it.

As for your story, the CHURCH can't keep the law from prosecuting a domestic violence case...IF the woman was killed by her husband the local police needed to investigate him and file charges the church has no control over that....I am not sure of what happened but there are ALWAYS two sides of a story.....

What a horrible situation!

The Catholic Church agrees that a person who is the victim of domestic violence needs and deserves protection. The woman in such a situation today may or may not be able to receive an annulment for the marriage, but she is certainly able to divorce her husband legally and move away so that she is safe from his attacks.

In fact, I just spoke with the priest who runs our local Catholic Social Services organization last Wednesday, and he told me that one of the things they do with donated furniture and appliances is help set victims of domestic abuse up in their own apartments. So not only does the Church condone a woman leaving this situation, the Church actually offers practical assistance in doing so.

The Catholic church hasn't changed since the Spanish Inquisition! But then what other religious faith follows a logical and humane approach to the human condition, Islam ? Think not!

The church has always supported marriage, but has never condoned abuse, by either spouse.

And the last time I checked, people were free to do just about anything they wanted to, even in the 70's.

Safe to say, there's a lot more to this story than you're telling us.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Yeah, Pope now says return latin to the masses.
This should clear up the mass confusion ... Not!
No matter, they'll soon have a lack, of priests.
55% came out, and said they were gay,
when told old gays stay, no new ones.
James: have not faith with partiality?
Is James not in the Catholic Bible?

But hey, Protest-ants are no better.
No consensus among carnal xians,
still feud over their rapture theories.

So we'll go with neither of law vs law,
since law vs law is as loser vs loser.

Translators of the Bible were neither,
as noted in their Epistle Dedicatory.

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Practices and disciplines change, BUT DOCTRINES AND DOGMAS DO NOT

And I doubt the veracity of your story. A woman and a man can seperate at any time. But a divorce is another matter

Publicity re; child (altar boy?) abuse surely must be causing closer papal scrutiny of worldwide catholic infrastructure, promotion, church hierarchy in general, n' est pas?

And, if so, I'd call that 'change', wooden shoe?

I think that men make mistakes and use bad judgment no matter the generation or faith. These things occur because men are flawed.

I think that was common among many religions in the 70s. It was the 80s that saw widespread awareness of domestic violence.

And people say civilization is in decline.
